Meet Sarah Fyson, founder of Moments of Flow – a Bristol-based wellbeing business that helps people reconnect with themselves through movement, music and mindfulness.

This summer, Sarah is bringing her brand experience, 'Out of Your Head' to Yuup - a series of Silent Disco Yoga on the Pier sessions. Set against the beautiful backdrop of Clevedon's waterfront, these unique classes combine carefully curated music, gentle movement and moments of stillness to help guests switch off from the everyday and leave feeling refreshed, grounded and uplifted.

Away from the pier, Sarah wears many hats. From coaching open-water swimmers and teaching yoga to recording her podcast and creating transformative wellbeing experiences alongside her husband Jules, she's passionate about helping people get out of their heads and back into their bodies.

We caught up with Sarah to hear more about her journey, the inspiration behind Moments of Flow, and what guests can expect from Out of Your Head.

Tell us a bit about yourself – what's your story, and what do you do when you're not hosting silent disco yoga on the pier?

When I’m not hosting silent disco yoga on the pier I do many things. Most of them related to moving somatically aiming to be the best version of myself and helping others to do the same! My most fun venture is recording my podcast with my dear friend from drama school, actress Katharine Monaghan who played Donna in Footballers Wives many moons ago! (She will kill me for mentioning that!)

We both geek out at the processes and practices that enable us to find our freedom, be fully self expressed and smash our desires! We have both navigated similar routes post drama school to find ways to feel safe in our bodies through yoga, breath, somatics, IFS and a bunch of other modalities and have created a new course 'Portal to Presence,' for people who want to learn just that.

Our light and fun podcast is called 'Untwatyourself!' A nod to how we can get our ego self out of our way so we can play and flourish! It came about organically and doesn't cease to make us laugh in an endearing way. I also teach classes in Binaural beats yoga, sunrise yoga and the occasional Hotpod Yoga session too.

I also love water! I am a fully qualified outdoor swim coach and help facilitate cold water social prescribing outdoor swim sessions here in Bristol. I am currently training to swim my second 10k swim in September in North Wales.

I have 3 beautiful kids, 2 cats who we all dote on and live with Jules, my husband who is the co-creator of our silent disco somatics and yoga sessions.

We met at Uni amidst the 90’s Brighton dance scene. Music is a passion we share and we love creating beautiful soundtracks for people to find themselves in again. Music never ceases to put me right back in my body, pulling me back into me again when the going gets tough.

I dance and am often on Instagram enticing people to get up for five minutes to dance with me from my kitchen!

What inspired you to start hosting silent disco yoga?

Jules and I hosted a mini festival for 12 years in East Harptree on the Mendips. When we had to turn the music off at midnight, one year we put a speaker in a jug to amplify it and we all danced around that! The pull was strong to carry on so the following year we hired silent disco headphones and then could dance the sun up.

Silent disco yoga was a natural progression. I was hosting yoga in the mornings at our festival and we thought why not combine the two! Music, movement and full immersion! We trialled it and people loved it!

What do you love most about sharing this experience with others?

I love seeing people dance, release tension, relax, laugh, cry, hug each other, sit on their own, listen to what they need, all of it! They walk away smiling, wanting more and saying that it was just what they needed! We have many people who come to multiple events!

A testimonial that moved me to tears was from a lovely lady who came to one of our events at The Mount Without in Bristol. She said:

"Sarah. Thanks for such a wonderful event. I absolutely loved it. The soundtrack was incredible! At the end of the class whilst we were winding down with your visualisation, my eyes were streaming with involuntary tears. I feel like these are still unresolved grief from losing someone to Covid whilst pregnant. Thank you for reconnecting me to my body whilst having small children. You have such a good business model going forward and are so talented as a pair. Please protect it!"

Feedback like this, that highlights what it means to someone to connect to their body and 'feel' again, makes my journey and how I meld together all the different elements I have immersed myself in over the years worth it. It is literally the best feeling.

What surprises people most when they attend one of your experiences?

I don't think they really know what to expect! The carefully, brilliantly curated soundtrack by Jules (with my input!) takes them on a journey and back home to themselves where they can restart from. It's a full reset in an hour and a half!

Looking ahead, what's next for you? Are there any new experiences, projects or ambitions you're excited about?

I am excited about expanding 'Out of Your Head,' so we can reach more people and inspire them to work somatically to get firmly into their bodies to reap the benefits.

And... I am really excited about my new podcast 'Untwatyourself,' with Katharine. It will give us a platform to share what we are passionate about and what the pair of us have learnt over the past 25 years to be able to inspire others. Being a great actress is intuitive and just like our events, it's about getting out of your head and into your body.

I am also launching a new monthly early Saturday morning movement with headphones and music amongst the beautiful trees in Ashton Court Estate. Watch this space!

Sarah's Silent Disco Yoga on the Pier offers a chance to move, breathe and completely switch off against a truly relaxing backdrop. Whether you're a regular yogi or trying something new, expect uplifting music, mindful movement and plenty of moments that leave you feeling lighter than when you arrived.

If Sarah's passion for movement and connection has inspired you, why not grab a pair of headphones and join her on the pier this summer? We'd love to see you there.
