What to Do This Bank Holiday Weekend in Bristol

Bank holiday weekends in Bristol have a particular energy. The city loosens up, the harbourside fills out, and suddenly three days feels like just enough time to actually do the things you've been meaning to do for months.

The question, as always, is what those things should actually be.

If you're looking beyond the usual, beyond the same brunch spots and the same Sunday walk, this is your list. Whether you're heading out with kids in tow, planning something for a group of mates, or after a proper date day, there's something here for every version of a Bristol bank holiday.

Step Inside a Planetarium at Aerospace Bristol

This one is genuinely special, and it's not the kind of thing most Bristol families know exists.

Dome Club runs an inflatable planetarium at Aerospace Bristol (home to the last Concorde ever to fly, which is worth the trip alone). Inside the dome, 360° visuals and immersive sound transport you to the night sky and beyond. There are three experiences running this weekend, each suited to a different age:

  • AstroTots Planetarium: Stars, Shapes & Colours is built for the very little ones, with a 25-minute show that introduces stars, shapes, and colours through the magic of the dome. Perfect for toddlers and early years. From £8 per adult.
  • Family Planetarium Show with Astronomy Q&A is the full experience: a guided tour of the current night sky, a journey across the Solar System, and a chance to handle a real meteorite from outer space. From £9 per adult.

  • Cockpit Command: 360° Family Flight Experience transforms the dome into a jet plane cockpit for an immersive 30-minute flight experience that older kids (and honestly, most adults) find completely thrilling. From £8.50 per adult.

All three are bookable through Yuup, and Aerospace Bristol itself (with its coffee shop, gift shop, and the Concorde on display) makes for a full day out

Explore Leigh Woods Through Watercolour

A gentler option for families who want to do something creative together. Slow down and paint one of Bristol’s most beautiful natural landscapes in a mindful, guided watercolour workshop. You’ll join your tutor, Holly Foskett-Barnes, for a calm and welcoming workshop inspired by the natural beauty of Leigh Woods

The workshop will take place at Bristol Folk house, but take inspiration from local surroundings at Leigh Woods.

Learn to Forage in the Chew Valley

An hour from Bristol city centre, the Chew Valley is one of those places that feels like a different world entirely. Learn to Forage and Explore Chew Valley is a guided walk with an expert forager. You'll learn to identify wild plants, understand what's edible and what isn't, and come away with a completely new way of looking at the countryside.

Spring is one of the best times of year to forage, and this experience is a brilliant one for older kids and teenagers who need a bit more stimulation than a standard nature walk.

Duration: 2.5 hrs | From £40 per person

Go Behind the Scenes of Bristol's Graffiti Culture

This is not a Banksy tour. The Spray Painting & Graffiti Tour Experience takes you into the living, breathing culture that made Bristol a global name in street art: the neighbourhoods, the techniques, the history. Then it puts a can in your hand so you can try it yourself.

It's active, it's social, and it produces something you'll actually want to keep. One of the best things going on in Bristol this weekend.

Duration: 2.5 hrs | From £35 per person

Taste Biodynamic Wine from Just Outside the City

Most people don't know that Bristol has a biodynamic vineyard on its doorstep. Biodynamic Bristol Wine Tasting with Limeburn Hill brings the vineyard to you: a proper tasting experience led by the people behind one of the most interesting wine producers in the South West.

Biodynamic farming takes the principles of organic viticulture even further, and the wines that come out of it tend to taste like somewhere specific. This is a brilliant bank holiday afternoon for anyone who takes their wine seriously, or wants to start.

Duration: 1.5 hrs | From £35 per person

Discover the Old City on a Food and Drink Tour

If you've never done a proper food tour of Bristol, a long bank holiday weekend is the ideal time to fix that. The Bristol Old City Food & Drink Tour winds through one of the most historically layered parts of the city, stopping at independent producers, hidden gems, and spots most locals walk past without a second glance.

Three hours, multiple stops, a guide who genuinely knows the city. It's the kind of experience that changes how you see a neighbourhood.

Duration: 3 hrs | From £63.50 per person

Walk the Haunted and Hidden Side of Bristol

Bank holiday evenings are made for this. The Haunted & Hidden Bristol Walk & Pub Stop takes you through the parts of the city that don't make it onto the standard itineraries: forgotten history, strange architecture, stories that have been quietly passed down for generations, before ending with a well-earned drink at a pub that fits the mood perfectly.

At £10 a head, it's one of the most entertaining and best-value things you can do in Bristol this weekend.

Duration: 2 hrs 15 mins | From £10 per person

Discover the Mount Without: Tower & History Tour

One of Bristol's most overlooked hidden gems. Discover The Mount Without: Tower & History Tour opens up a historic tower and the story buried within it, the kind of access that only exists because someone took the time to make it available. Short, affordable, and the sort of thing you'll be telling people about for weeks.

Duration: 1 hr | From £10 per person
