Meet The Bristol Flower Pot Girl: Growing Creativity & Community

Just nine months after moving from San Francisco to Bristol, Sarah – aka The Bristol Flower Pot Girl – has turned a lifelong love of flowers into a growing community of people coming together to create, connect and try something new.

A former interior designer, Sarah now hosts flower arranging workshops in Bristol, helping complete beginners discover the joy of floristry without worrying about getting everything "right". Her workshops are as much about slowing down, meeting people and trusting your creativity as they are about leaving with a beautiful bunch of flowers.

We caught up with Sarah to discover how a summer spent working on a Californian flower farm changed the course of her life, why flowers have an incredible ability to bring people together, and what's next for The Bristol Flower Pot Girl.

From San Francisco to flower arranging in Bristol

Before becoming The Bristol Flower Pot Girl, Sarah spent eight years working as an interior designer in California. Flowers were always somewhere in the background – arranging them on the side and helping friends with flowers for their weddings – but it wasn't yet her career Then, in 2022, she spent time working on a flower farm in California.

"Not to be dramatic, but it was LIFE CHANGING!"

It wasn't simply learning about growing flowers that made an impression. Sarah saw how the farm created a place for people to come together.

"It really wasn't about growing and selling flowers, but rather creating a space for the community to come together."

Seeing flowers become a catalyst for people to connect with each other – and themselves – stayed with her.

So, when Sarah moved from San Francisco to Bristol, she decided one major life change clearly wasn't enough.

"I figured it would be the perfect opportunity to change one more thing about my life and switch careers as well!"

Finding community through flowers

Arriving in a new country meant Sarah was searching for a community of her own.

Remembering what she'd experienced at the flower farm, creating floristry workshops in Bristol felt like a natural way to find it.

She began building spaces where people could meet, learn, play and connect over a shared love of flowers. And that sense of community has quickly become one of the most important parts of her workshops. Some attendees have even become friends.

There have also been plenty of conversations that have gone far beyond flower arranging.

"I've had lots of deep dive conversations about astrology and synchronicities of life during my workshops! I always come away from those interactions really excited and charged up!"

Flowers, creativity and slowing down

There's another lesson Sarah hopes people take away from her workshops: permission to trust themselves.

Working on the flower farm taught her to follow her intuition, even when the choices she was making might have seemed a little crazy to everyone else. Working on a flower farm? Moving countries? Changing careers? Sometimes you've just got to go with it.

It's a philosophy she brings into her flower arranging workshops too. For Sarah, floristry isn't about rigid rules or everyone producing an identical arrangement. It's a chance to experiment, be present and have confidence in your own creative decisions.

"I love how flowers teach us to be gentle, present and appreciate small beauties in life."

She particularly loves watching people surprise themselves. Many guests arrive having never tried flower arranging before and aren't convinced they'll be able to create anything particularly impressive.

"Seeing people's faces LIGHT UP when they see the arrangement they've created themselves makes my day!"

Sarah loves watching guests leave feeling uplifted, having practised a new form of self-care and discovered a little more confidence in trying something unfamiliar.

What's next for The Bristol Flower Pot Girl?

Sarah has plenty more planned. More workshops are on the horizon, along with collaborations with other Bristol creatives, supper clubs and experiences at local flower farms.

But there's one long-term dream that brings everything back to the community spirit that inspired The Bristol Flower Pot Girl in the first place.

"Its my long term dream to host workshops in my back garden, where we walk to my allotment (2 mins away!), pick your own flowers, and then head back to arrange while sharing good food, amazing chats, and sipping a glass of wine."

Sounds pretty dreamy to us.
