Great value doesn't always mean discounts and bundles. This Black Friday, what we may lack in deals, we make up for with seriously feel-good experiences courtesy of talented, local independents. Choosing to shop local this Black Friday is a small choice that could make a big difference as we head to the end of 2020. Here's three reasons to support local businesses this year...

1. Your money will go towards supporting Bristol high streets
It’s been more important than ever for us to head to the local high street for everything from fruit and veg to baked goods, deli treats and more. Our hope for 2021 is that every local business that’s had a difficult year can fully recover. And your local purchase at this time, no matter how small, will be a helping hand in achieving this. Pictured below is the wonderful Alice from Trylla in Bedminster. Trylla has a treasure trove of gifts as well as fabulous pottery making experiences

2. You’ll help lower Black Friday vehicle emissions
This year’s Black Friday is now predicted to be the biggest ever. The huge number of extra deliveries and the concentration of such a big demand in just a few days is likely to result in a spike in vehicle emissions. You can help curb the Black Friday carbon dioxide surge by using the money you would have spent with global companies to shop locally. Throughout lockdown small businesses around Bristol have been offering local pickup and delivery even if their shop front is currently closed. And of course, if you buy a local experience gift this Christmas you’ll not only be supporting local, but also be helping cut emissions!

3. You’ll bring a smile to the face of Bristol’s indie business owners
After what has arguably been one of the most difficult years for lots of local businesses, the way many have reacted and adapted to new Covid regulations has been amazing. From restaurant vouchers to handcrafted homeware and locally hosted experiences both in person and online. By choosing to spend your money with a Bristol business you’ll be putting a huge smile on the face of independents.
