Tredegar House lakeside walk

4 hrs
(5)

Bristol Steppin Sistas love nothing more than championing the great outdoors, creating inclusive walking groups, and celebrating the wonderful mental health benefits of connecting with nature.

In this experience check out a 17th-century mansion on the southern edge of Newport in Wales. Admire its beautiful grounds and be stunned by its national park. This is held in collaboration with Soul Trail, a charitable organisation offering walking groups that focus on improving our physical and emotional wellbeing. Benefits of getting outdoors include a positive impact on our mood, improving our general fitness, and decreasing stress and anxiety levels. So get those walking boots at the ready...

Together, explore the impressive Tredegar House. A Charles II-era mansion home for over five hundred years to the Morgan family, before becoming home to the Lords of Tredegar - one of the most influential families in the area. In one relaxing afternoon learn more about its history and take in its breathtaking grounds.

Stroll around Tredegar House's lovely gardens - breathe in sweet, woody and refreshing scents as you pass along the orchard, cedar and orangery gardens. Its parkland covers more than 90 acres, featuring woodlands dense with wildlife and a pretty serpentine lake. Enjoy the soothing sounds of rippling water as you walk. Wandering around will feel like the perfect city escape, journeying away from hustle and bustle and deeper into nature.

Get your fix of nature, improve your mental wellbeing and embark on a feel-good walk with lovely women.

Bristol Steppin Sistas

Bristol Steppin Sistas is a community that empowers women, creating safe places for them to walk while grounding their mental and physical wellbeing. The outdoors is great for clearing the mind and enjoying good times - this is what this community is all about.

This walking group welcomes everyone regardless of their culture or race. Bristol Steppin Sistas acknowledge there's been a reluctance for women of colour to venture into unfamiliar spaces where they might feel exposed, judged or vulnerable. This walking group aims to motivate women of colour to visit rural areas around Bristol they haven't seen before and step across these boundaries in the safety and company of others who share similar experiences. Join this inclusive community celebrating Mother Nature and sisterhood around the South West's most stunning locations.

Sophie Brown

Sophie is the founder of Bristol Stepping Sistas and your qualified walk leader. Growing up in the countryside, Sophie always enjoyed exploring rural areas and found spending time in nature healing. But she recognised lots of women of colour are held back from doing the same - they might feel unsafe, judged or exposed in these unknown environments. Sophie was inspired to create safe walks where women of colour felt comfortable - Bristol Stepping Sistas was born. This growing sisterhood champions exercise, fresh air and nature with an encouraging support network at its core.
