What you'll do

Discover traditional soap making with Margaret May Soaps, hosted by local maker Karen, in her home workshop. Watch and see how traditional handmade soaps are created, then make your own.

Karen will show you how to make soap first hand, using high quality ingredients and traditional processes. Then you’ll roll your sleeves up and create your own soaps using a recipe rich in coconut oil and vitamin e. You’ll finish up with your own honey and oatmeal soap ‘loaf’ to take home - which you can slice into 5-6 soaps to enjoy afterwards.

As an extra bonus, Karen will also show you how to make lip balms by creating a batch on the day and then giving everyone a pot of this freshly made balm to take home.

How to get there

What people are saying

Spent a chilled afternoon with wonderful host, Karen, who welcomed us with warmth and shared her vast knowledge about soap-making and the chemistry behind this delicate science. (her vegan cake was delicious too!). Can't wait to try my soaps.

Barbara Evripidou, Oct 2021

I had a wonderful afternoon in Karen's beautiful home learning about soap making. Karen was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and it was fascinating to learn about the different processes involved in making soap and other beauty items. The carrot cake was a delicious bonus!

Helen Webster , Oct 2021

Karen taught and demonstrated the art and science of soap making in a fun and informative way.
We got hands on to make our own soap under her supervision.
Also saw balm making and came home with samples and soapy goodies from her shop.
Highly recommend.
The home made cake and coffee were also delicious
I won’t be a soap maker but I will be a customer
