Join us for a very special evening of history and ghost stories at Davy's House – the Georgian townhouse in Dowry Square where the young Humphry Davy conducted his notorious nitrous oxide experiments at the Pneumatic Institution.

The evening begins with a short guided tour exploring the house and its remarkable history – Romantic poets, radical philosophy and the strange science of laughing gas. After an interval with a complimentary drink, acclaimed storyteller Robert Lloyd Parry brings an M.R. James classic to life by candlelight in the drawing room: Canon Alberic's Scrap-book.

Places are strictly limited to 18 guest.

Evening programme:

6.45pm – Doors open
7.00pm – Mini tour and talk with owner
7.30pm – Interval and drinks
8.00pm – Ghost story performance by Robert Lloyd Parry

The performance lasts around 45 minutes, finishing by 8:45pm. As the story is told by candlelight in an intimate room, we cannot admit latecomers once it begins. if you're delayed, arriving during the interval (7:30–8:00pm) will still catch the performance, though you'll miss the tour.

Arrival: Door opens at 6:45pm. Tour and talk begin promptly at 7:00pm.

Getting here: We're at 6 Dowry Square, Hotwells, a 20-minute walk from Bristol city centre along Hotwell Road, with regular buses stopping nearby. On-street parking nearby is metered until 7pm and free afterwards. Spaces on and around the square can be limited, so do allow time to find one. Nearby recommendations for alternative parking include South Green Street, Albemarle Row, Granby Hill, or Clifton Vale.
