From making a basic dough to kneading, folding and pleating, British-Chinese chef Emily will bring you up to speed on these lovely wholesome parcels of joy. There's no need to have ever made dumplings before (or anything for that matter). Just bring yourself, some enthusiasm and your host will spread her infectious love for this craft. You won't have to worry about a thing being in Emily's wonderful hands throughout.

Emily will give you an introduction to dumplings, their origins and what makes them so delightful. This chef recognises while some might initially find this process intimidating, it's a relaxing and therapeutic one once you get started. Emily will be happy tailoring this masterclass to each group's different abilities.

The dough you make in this experience will set you up for a lifetime of dumplings. Get comfortable with the more fiddly bits, like basic pleating and filling your lovely bundles. Get accustomed to using all the traditional equipment you'll need. Before you know it, you'll be sitting back and taking a bite into one of your very own delicious dumplings! It's time to master the ultimate comfort food.

  • All surfaces will be fully disinfected before arrival
  • Gloves are available if you wish to use them
  • All ingredients will be weighed in advance to prevent cross-contamination

  • Individuals will only prep and eat their own dumplings
  • Please wash your hands regularly

Xin Xin Dumpling Masterclasses are run by British-Chinese chef Emily. Emily has been in the industry for over 10 years and still loves spending her days in the kitchen. She first fell in love with cooking helping out at her parents' take-away shop. As they say, the rest is history...

Emily started Xin Xin Chan Dumplings back in 2020, during the first lockdown. Emily wanted to provide a real insight into classic Cantonese cooking, sharing the food she loves and grew up with. Emily has always enjoyed making dumplings, but lockdown gave her a rare opportunity to take her skills to the next level.

Emily sees dumplings as little parcels of joy - each bite made with juicy filings and delicate pleating. She wants to be able to share this therapeutic craft with others. In her dumpling masterclasses learn how to make dumplings from scratch, including dough, various fillings and pleating. Best of all, you'll get to leave with your own and recipes to continue practising at home.

Emily Xin Xin Chan

Emily is the chef behind Xin Xin Dumpling Masterclasses. Cantonese cuisine is right at the heart of her cooking.

Emily was born and raised in Swindon by traditional Chinese parents. She grew up speaking Cantonese and following Chinese traditions at home. As a teenager, Emily spent a lot of time in her parents’ Chinese takeaway shop - she quickly learned how to cook everything on the menu. She's gone on to work at a Michelin-listed vegan restaurant since.

Emily has heaps of experience that has enriched her culinary knowledge. She is currently working as a chef at the well-known Bristol restaurant Tare. Emily is passionate about uncovering the rich stories behind the food she grew up eating and loves.
