Spend a Sunday with a difference at the 11th-century Nettlecombe Court Estate in Somerset. This unique experience combines a long-table Sunday roast with the chance to explore the wonders of Exmoor’s Dark Skies Reserve.
Begin your evening inside the stunning Grade I listed house, where you’ll be welcomed by hosts Liz and Gary. Settle in for a hearty carvery-style roast, complete with all the trimmings and a hot tray-bake dessert to follow. The Nettlecombe team serve with warmth and care – and dietary needs can be catered for with notice.
After dinner, step out onto the lawn and let Liz from Moor Wild Experiences guide you through the night sky. Using laser pens, star charts and apps, you’ll learn how to navigate constellations and spot Saturn’s rings, Jupiter’s moons, nebulae and more. With both traditional and modern telescopes to try, this is a rare chance to see the universe up close.
Round off the evening with an engaging presentation indoors, full of tips for stargazing with just your eyes or binoculars. You’ll take home an Exmoor Dark Skies pocket guide, with the option to buy star charts if you’d like to continue your journey into the cosmos.
You’re welcome to bring your own drinks, and the bar will be open from 6pm (cash and card accepted).

Although getting a clear night was a brilliant bonus for myself and my partner, this event was extremely well organised, with the emphasise on all attendees being able to look at the dark sky and its magical planets and stars, with a great array o f fantastic telescopes. Plus, the food was home cooked and excellent. Brilliant value for money! Count us in for next year!
Excellent venue, nice dinner. Really good and knowledgeable host
Very much enjoyed stargazing, the hosts were really informative and helpful. The food was on the school dinners side, which reduced the rating slightly but enjoyed the experience of using different telescopes and apps.
Just amazing great time had
I only went yesterday, and even though we aren't local to the venue, I have already recommended it to a number of friends! We were very lucky to get a fantastically clear night (after Storm Babet) and saw Saturn and Jupiter very clearly. Liz's enthusiasm was infectious and she had some great anecdotes etc. The roast was pretty decent too (especially for the money).
Really enjoyed the evening and the chance to look through the telescopes. The location was brilliant and got very lucky with the night sky. Feel like the hosts gave plenty of info and came away with more knowledge than I had.
We had an amazing evening. Being able to see the stars etc so close and with such a knowledgeable team. Food was delicious. We absolutely loved it and will definitely look out for any further similar experiences.
Seeing Saturn, Jupiter + four of its moons, the Polar Star and constellations such as Cassiopeia was a dream. The members of the staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They gave wonderful explanations and support with the telescopes. Also, the Sunday roast was very good! It was a BRILLIANT experience :)
Thank you for making this possible!
Thank you!
Great fun.
Liz and the team were great and really passionate about the stargazing. We left feeling we'd seen and learnt a lot. Thoroughly recommended.
