Slow Morning Christmas Stocking Workshop

Join Sarah Davies, a seamstress, designer and maker of all things textile, as she invites you to step away from the rush and spend a slow morning hand stitching, designing and making your very own Christmas stocking, before the busy festive season begins. Make it to hang in your own home, or to gift to a loved one or friend this Christmas.

Held in the workshop space of one of Bristol's favourite homeware shops, Mon Pote, you'll start with a pre-cut stocking in a neutral colourway, your blank canvas to work your magic on however you wish. Using a collection of vintage fabrics, remnants and decorative trims, you'll be guided through simple appliqué and embroidery techniques, with plenty of room to personalise it with initials, motifs and little details. Once you've finished decorating, a sewing machine will be on hand to bring the stocking body and lining together. No sewing experience is needed, just a willingness to slow down and enjoy making something by hand.

You're welcome to bring a coffee or hot drink up to the workshop space with you, and there's a great selection of local coffee spots right by the shop on North Street to pick one up on your way in.

Provided: a pre-cut stocking, vintage fabrics and trims, buttons, beads, embroidery threads, needles and all other essential materials. Just turn up and we'll take care of the rest.

Bring along (optional): any charms, beads, ribbons or treasured embellishments you'd like to work in. If you enjoy a rummage, why not seek out trims and fabrics from charity and second hand shops beforehand? Embroidered napkins, tea towels, lace edging and old buttons are perfect for reworking into your stocking and give it a story of its own. If you'd like to use your own patterned fabric, bring it pre-washed and ironed and we'll have a template ready.

Sarah Davies

I’m Sarah, a Bristol-based textile designer-maker. I create handmade textile pieces for homes and interiors, working with everything from vintage and reclaimed fabrics to beautiful natural linens.

Alongside my commissions, I love sharing my passion for textiles through relaxed, hands-on workshops. My workshops are all about slowing down, learning new skills and making something unique with your own hands. Whether you’re completely new to sewing or already enjoy getting creative, I’ll guide you through the process in a friendly and informal setting.

I’m particularly drawn to traditional techniques, thoughtful use of fabric and the character that comes from making things by hand. I love giving old or leftover textiles a new life, and encouraging people to experiment and put their own personality into what they make.

My practice is about celebrating the joy of making, good materials and creating something you’ll want to keep for years to come.
