Capture Bristol’s most iconic view from above with a relaxed sketching session and coffee on the Clifton Suspension Bridge.
This experience is part of City Uncovered: Bristol, taking place from 18th–31st May - a limited-time series of unique, under-the-radar experiences designed to help you see the city differently.
What to expect
You’ll meet at the Clifton Suspension Bridge Museum at Leigh Woods, where your experience begins with a short introduction to the history of the bridge and Avon Gorge. A museum guide will highlight key features, from the engineering of the bridge to the geology and heritage of the surrounding landscape.
From there, you’ll step out onto the bridge itself - 245 feet above the gorge - for a gentle, guided sketching session led by local artist Sam Pierpoint. With panoramic views stretching from the winding River Avon and Leigh Woods to Clifton Observatory and the Bristol skyline, you’ll have a truly unique vantage point to draw from.
Throughout the session, Sam will offer optional creative prompts to help you loosen up and respond to the scene, whether you’re a complete beginner or more experienced. A coffee cart will be on hand, so you can enjoy a hot or cold drink and a slice of cake as you sketch, chat, and take it all in.
Expect a relaxed, social atmosphere that’s more about slowing down and noticing than creating a “perfect” piece of art.
