Bristol-based artist Lisa Malyon draws and paints the built environment, but a chance experiment took her art in a whole new direction. After attending a lampshade making workshop in 2013 Lisa replaced an old plain shade with her new design. Not wanting to throw the shade away, she experimented by drawing on it and discovered that it was the perfect canvas. From the SS Great Britain to St Mary Redcliffe and the Wills' Memorial Building, Lisa has since illustrated cityscapes of Bristol and beyond, creating beautiful, one-off lampshade designs that are brought to life when lit up by a lamp. To date St Paul’s Cathedral, London, the Hepworth Museum in Wakefield, Brooklyn Bridge in New York and even the Orient Express have all been immortalised on lampshade. After holding an art workshop in Glastonbury, Lisa’s guests were all delighted with their own lamp art creations which led her to share lampshade art workshops across Bristol, helping guests to make their own one-off lampshade designs featuring panoramic views of our beautiful city.
Lisa is a Bristol artist who loves sharing her craft. She'll be your host for this experience and take you through each step of creating your own work of art, from sketching style to cityscape inspiration.
