Did you know it's really easy to make your own knickers? Well, at this sewing workshop with expert tutor Lauren Holloway you'll learn how to make your own beautiful pair of knickers (in fact you'll make a few pairs!). Using stretch fabric Lauren will show you how to cut your pattern, along with how to sew stretch fabrics on a sewing machine, and then how to add trims like elastic, stretch lace and bows.
Make a pretty pair or a practical pair, low-rise or high waisted, you'll have the chance to customise your knickers with Lauren's guidance. Do you have an old T-shirt or stretchy dress you'd love to upcycle? Or maybe you have some stretch fabric offcuts you'd love to utilise? This workshop is the perfect opportunity to use those scraps! Or just use some of the fabrics provided.
All materials are provided although you are welcome to bring your own, we recommend stretch jersey (with or without lycra), a lightweight T-shirt jersey is best.
You will learn:
• Cutting the correct size pattern • Recognise the types of fabrics and haberdashery required for knicker making • Work with stretch fabrics such as stretch lace and cotton jersey • Apply a range of lingerie elastics • Sew accurately with ¼ inch (6mm) seams • How to construct an enclosed gusset using the 'burrito' method. • Choose appropriate type and size of machine needle for the fabric you are using • Choose the appropriate stitches for seams and elastic • Take home a pattern which you can reuse to make more knickers!
IMPORTANT: This workshop is an advanced beginner class meaning you will already be able to thread and use the basic functions on a sewing machine. If you are a complete beginner we recommend trying our Beginner Machine Sewing workshop first.
