Want to learn about seasonable ingredients? Fancy making beautiful illustrations for your home? Whether you're an experienced artist or illustrator, or an absolute beginner - everyone and anyone is welcome to this workshop!

Bristol creative Jess Knights likes to keep her workshops informal and relaxed - so feel free to grab a drink of your choice and get comfy. After all, this is an opportunity to socialise too!

What to expect:

  • Learn about seasonal veg from your inspiring host
  • Make a lovely A3 paper cut illustration for your wall
  • Create different textures on loose paper
  • Cut these out to form still life shapes
  • Get guidance from Jess making your seasonal ingredients illustration
  • Bring your own materials, a selection of paints and paper will be supplied
  • Get creative, unwind and socialise!

This experience will be held at Totterdown's Star & Dove. If you're stuck for inspo, just look at the walls - you'll find Jess' illustrated food series stealing the show! From the Amalfi lemon tart zinging with citrus and summer, to mouthwatering confit turnips for those cosy winter nights in, Jess' illustrations celebrate this venue's incredible seasonal menu.

For the ultimate experience, work up an appetite with Jess creating your own seasonal veg masterpieces then book yourself in for a delicious meal after - now that's what we call food for thought!

On the day

  • There's parking on the roads surrounding the pub but these spaces can get quite busy - your host recommends arriving via alternative transport if you can. Temple Meads Station is a 20 min walk away. Bedminster train station is 10 min walk away
  • Arrive a little early and grab a drink. If the class makes you hungry, you can book dinner in the restaurant after - the food at The Star & Dove is outstanding!

Jess Knights is an exciting Bristol creative whose cheery murals are brightening up the city. Her speciality? Illustration and design for food and drink companies. Whether you're a bar, restaurant, shop or cafe - Jess can help you communicate your offering in a playful way.

If you haven't already spotted her bright murals at The Cider Box and The Old Bookshop, or illustrations at The Star & Dove - get yourselves over there now! Jess is an advocate for social causes, health and the environment. These all inspire her work, adding layers of interest. Jess uses her skill for putting together different textures to create unique, eye-catching designs full of stories.

Jess is a coeliac who is big into sustainability. Want to learn a thing or two about seasonal veg? Create a beautiful illustration while you're at it too? Join Jess for one of her brilliant workshops. As for any cocktail lovers - from Bloody Marys, to Margs and Espresso Martinis - Jess' illustrated recipes cover all the crowd-pleasers. Her new 'What's Cooking?' Instagram live series is a deep dive into creative's lives and what they eat and drink - it will get those taste buds going for sure!

Jess Knights (She/Her)

Originally from Essex, Jess has been living in the South West for four years. She now calls Bristol home - its lovely nature spots, amazing eateries and buzzing creative scene were too good to resist!

Jess studied BA Illustration at Camberwell College of Art. After graduating with a first degree she moved into a career in creative promotions within the hospitality & environmental industry. She's worked for all kinds of cool brands like Pieminister, Parched Pub Company and Forestry England.

This creative always stays busy, if she's not making gorgeous seasonal veg calendars or cocktail illustrations for your home, she's collaborating with local eateries, or hosting exhibitions as a member of the South West Art Collective. Meeting new people and sharing each other's stories is what makes Jess smile.
