Make & paint your own plant pot from scratch
What you'll do
Fancy getting stuck into hand-building in a fun, friendly, and accessible way? This pottery workshop is made for ceramic beginners, or anyone who has briefly experimented with clay and wants to give it another go!
What to expect:
- Get guided through making your own plant pot and tray from scratch
- Add personal design touches as you go
- All ideas and designs are welcome and encouraged!
- Choose to fill yours with personal details, from stamping your name onto it, to cutting out or sculpting shapes to join on later
- Once you finish your pieces, the painting begins!
- Get provided with several paints to start adding colour to your work
- Your creations will be left for a week to be bisque fired, glazed and fired again for one final time
- This process takes between 4 - 6 weeks - you will be emailed when your masterpieces are ready to collect!
This experience is designed to make clay fun and easily accessible to everyone. Book this workshop individually, or privately for birthdays, work do's, hen do's and other special occasions!

- Letters for embossing templates
- Teas and coffees

COVID-19 guidelines
- Your host's priority is to keep everyone safe. They ask that everyone attending any of the classes adheres to the current government guidelines. If you are unwell or have any symptoms of coronavirus, or have come into contact with anyone who has developed symptoms - please stay home and notify your host via email immediately
On the day
- Wear clothes that you don't mind getting a bit mucky! Nothing you work with will stain, but it can be a bit messy
- Your host recommends cutting/filing your nails as it can get a little fiddly with long nails

About Made This Mess
Self-taught, Bristol-based ceramicist Jess Xuereb started MADETHISMESS during the early months of 2021. Her style is rustic yet elegant, focusing on slab-building functional ceramic dinnerware. She teaches slab-building ceramics to beginners in order to make clay less daunting and more easily accessible. She doesn’t use a wheel, so everything you learn in class you can recreate at home in your own time! She wants people to know that they don’t need all the bells and whistles to make beautiful and functional ceramic pieces!
