Old Market Immersive Audio Tour

Get off the beaten track and explore a new area, at your own pace, with a local in your ear. This clever GPS enabled walking tour immerses you into Bristol‘s oldest neighbourhood, which used to lie right outside the castle walls.

Whizz around in just over an hour and learn all about Old Market's fascinating past and vibrant present, or take the whole afternoon or evening to enjoy some of the many historic pubs, independent restaurants, coffee shops, breweries and music venues that are recommended along the way. It's up to you!

Your audio guide, Heather, has lived in Old Market for over 20 years and she will be showing you all her favourite spots via your headphones.

The tour starts at Castle Bridge, where you‘ll hear about Bristol‘s Anglo-Saxon origins and how the city got its name. In Castle Park, you'll find hidden remains of Bristol's Norman castle and discover how this once-mighty fortress shaped the city. As you get into Old Market itself, you’ll see where trading has taken place for almost a thousand years and leave the beaten -track for hidden gems and interesting facts galore.

This tour will suit anyone who fancies exploring an area beyond the tourist trail, those new to the area who are looking for insider tips, history buffs and food and drink enthusiasts. It also makes a fabulous pub crawl with a twist.

Not sure what time to book it for or wandering how long it will take? No problem! The GPS will pick up your location as you walk with your phone in your pocket, so you can take as long as you like and you can stop as often as you like.

The tour can be taken at any time of day that you like, but here are a few tips:

If you're thinking of making some food and drink stops, be sure to start after midday and steer clear of Mondays. If you want to be sure the maximum number of fabulous pubs are open, then evenings from Wednesday to Saturday make the best pub crawls (however, be careful to pace yourself, as there are a lot of them!)

After booking, each person in your group will be asked to download an app for the audio tour platform and you will be given a unique code that will work for the same number of people booked.

• How it works: Download the app after booking and use your unique access code

• Timing: Start anytime—no need to stick to your booked time

• Top tip: Start after midday for food stops; evenings (Wed–Sat) are best for pub visits

Adult (One audio tour code) £5.95
Two people (Two audio tour codes) £10
Three people (Three audio tour codes) £15
Four people (Four audio tour codes) £20

Heather enjoys encouraging others to drink locally and meeting like-minded people.
