Nourishing your Postpartum Time

Has all your focus been on preparing yourself for the birth of your baby that you’ve completely forgotten to think about what will happen when they actually arrive?

Maybe you’ve bought some baby clothes and learnt how to change a nappy, but have you thought about how you might get some rest in those early days or whether you want all those people visiting you while you’re still healing from the birth and learning how to nurse your baby? Well, this is your invitation to start curating the nourishing postpartum that you deserve.

In this workshop, we will be exploring the 5 Universal Postpartum Needs (rest, nourishing food, loving touch, contact with nature, and spiritual companionship), as set out by Kimberly-Ann Johnson in her revolutionary book The Fourth Trimester. We will delve deeper into the importance of each of these needs in the postpartum period and any barriers that might prevent you from accessing them. We will also engage in various practices throughout the workshop to notice what it might feel like to actually have these needs met, and to be held and nourished during your postpartum. We will end the session by creating a ‘Postpartum Map’ - a visual representation of the postpartum needs and a map on how you are going to go about having them met - which can be put on the fridge to be looked at again when you are in the thick of it with nappy changes and multiple night wakes. During our time together we will also be touching on how to set boundaries with friends and family, how your relationship with your partner might change, things you can do to bring you joy in those early days, and the shift in identity you might experience as a new mother.

Whilst no-one can fully prepare you for what parenthood will be like, entering into early postpartum without something of a plan can leave new mothers feeling overwhelmed, resentful and exhausted. Having a flexible plan, or even just opening the conversation about what you might need during those early days, can give you a good grounding to enter motherhood from a place of empowerment.

This workshop is currently only available for pregnant women at any stage. There will be snacks and drinks provided. Please wear comfy layers. Everything else will be provided for you, including a little goodie bag with some special postpartum discounts to help you with your planning.
