Monoprinting & chine collé masterclass

What you'll do

Lithographers Lemonade Press are back with another brilliant experience - a monoprinting & chine collé masterclass.

Monoprinting is a unique form of printmaking where the image can only be made once, unlike most printmaking which creates multiple originals. Chine collé is a special printmaking technique where different coloured or textured paper adheres to your overall piece. What happens when the two come together? Truly one of a kind creations!

Your host will get you warmed up with an introduction to this craft. Once you're clued up, you'll begin painting directly onto a plate or use rags, fingers and brushes to illuminate your image by wiping away the ink film. Once you have created your image, you will run it through the press and print it onto paper. The residual ink remaining on the plate can be used to make a second cool 'ghost' print - your host will show you how.

You'll create collé pieces using different paper, by cutting or tearing a shape and collage onto another print. This method introduces new colour into the print by using the colour from the collé piece. This can be from the paper's natural colour or using another piece that has been either printed or hand-coloured. You might fancy making your own pieces using the monotype process, collaging these onto another monotype.

This masterclass covers the making and use of a basic registration jig for placing collé pieces, making chine collé shapes using a hand-cut template and incorporating monotype with chine collé. By the end, you'll be quite the pro!
