Embroidery is for everyone. A perfect way to relax and immerse yourself in the beauty of colour, pattern, shapes and texture. You will stitch with silk threads & vintage yarns and fabrics.
This is a 2-hour workshop, designed for you to ‘taste’ or reconnect with sewing by hand. You will learn how to make different stiches by hand. You can choose your favourate stitches which you will combine to make up a mini picture. Hannah will teach you how to create both realism and exciting abstract patterned effects in your embroidery.
The theme of this workshop is ‘human connection to place’. This gives you a starting point which can take you anywhere! To include landscape / interior scenes. Places which you feel a connection to. We will work from photographs/postcards/still life and sketchbooks.
We will gain inspiration from Romanticism, Impressionism, Bauhaus and early Modernist Artists and Textile makers as well as contemporary Textile Artists.
What you will take away:
You will make a tiny embroidery on a piece of natural cloth of your choice, inspired by your place.
This is a perfect opportunity to try something new / rekindle / find a love of stitch. You will be supported by Hannah throughout. Her expertise will enable you to feel safe and excited by all you will produce. Hannah’s enthusiasm for creativity in others is unique. She is a joy to make art with. Suitable for all ages. Beginners, or those with more experience.
