Family Half Term Print Workshop

Your half term holiday will be one to remember when you make your mark on the world this October. Spend a whole day Printmaking! You will explore colours, textures and expressive art in monotype printmaking. You will use your creative powers to discover the joy of printing by hand in this relaxed, fun workshop with artist and printmaker Hannah.

Monotype is a diverse form of printmaking where every print is completely unique. Unlike other printing techniques, the image can only be printed once, meaning you'll create a great collection of original artworks that can never be exactly reproduced.

Working in Hannah's studio, you'll use professional printmaking inks, rollers, copper plates and a Tofko printing press, printing your finished pieces onto beautiful Somerset Satin and Italian Fabriano papers.

Perfect for complete beginners as well as anyone looking to reconnect with printmaking, Hannah will guide you through the process from start to finish. You'll learn how to mix tones using a breadth of colours and experiment with techniques, from striking realism to playful, abstract effects.

The workshop explores the theme 'Autumnal light and dark', giving you plenty of inspiration while leaving room to follow your own creative direction. You might create real /dream like scenes, which hold a special association with the seasonal shift.

Bring your ideas to life using memories, imagination, photographs, postcards and artists' sketchbooks, while taking inspiration from Impressionist and early Modernist printmaking. If you enjoy drawing, painting, colour and texture – or simply love the excitement of not knowing exactly how something will turn out – monotype is a wonderful technique to explore.

You'll create your own collection of A6 - A4 monotype prints to take home. Whether you're discovering printmaking for the first time or returning to a technique you've enjoyed before, Hannah will offer guidance, encouragement and plenty of creative inspiration.

Who is it for?

No previous printmaking experience is needed. The workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those with some previous experience, with plenty of support throughout. Little children, teenagers, and grown-ups, young and old.

Edge of Light Studio is a characterful space housed within a shipping container at Willway yard. Bathroom and kitchen facilities are available in the main building just a few metres away.
