Perfect for both beginners and those with some experience, this 2.5-hour session will guide you through the slab building technique, a fundamental method in pottery that involves rolling out and shaping clay slabs to form your unique piece.

What to expect

  • Introduction to slab building: Learn how to roll out clay slabs, cut shapes, and assemble them to create the basic structure of your oil burner.
  • Design and construction: Get hands-on experience in designing and constructing your oil burner, ensuring it's both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Decorative techniques: Discover various ways to personalise your work using textures, stamps, and carving methods to add intricate details and patterns.

At the end of the session, your masterpiece will be taken back to our studio for the finishing touches. We will fire and glaze your oil burner in a finish of your choice, ensuring it’s both durable and beautiful. Your completed piece will be ready for collection in 2-4 weeks, a perfect addition to your home or a thoughtful handmade gift.

Meredith Mason (She/Her)

Meredith is a ceramicist specialising in handbuilding with 3 years of teaching experience. She enjoys exploring clay techniques such as coiling, pinch pots and slab building. Bringing these techniques to a variety of workshops, Meredith aims to share her love of the clay world by guiding you through the process of handmade forms.

Naomi Stokes (She/Her)

Naomi is an expert potter with three years teaching experience. Naomi mostly works on the potter's wheel, but has recently reignited her love for hand building. Her aim is to help people realise their ideas in clay. Naomi will be on hand during the whole experience to give advice, support and plenty of encouragement.
