Make a Mug at The Hobgoblin

Come and make your very own handcrafted clay mug with Pottymouth Workshop at everyones favourite independent neighbourhood boozer - The Goblins Tavern!

You'll be guided step-by-step through the process of making your own slab-built ceramic mug. You don't need any previous clay experience as everything will be fully explained on the day.

What to expect:

  • Learn the fundamentals of slab building pottery
  • Make your own clay beer mug with the help of professional ceramicists
  • Collect your mugs 2-4 weeks later after they've been fired and glazed

After a brief demonstration from your experts, you'll be left to flex your new skills! Practise the fundamentals of slab building: rolling out clay, slip and scoring, and decorative techniques to finish off with your personal and unique design.

Your finished item will be left with your hosts who will fire and glaze your work. You will be contacted to collect your mugs from your host within 2-4 weeks.

On the day

Your host will provide all materials and equipment needed for this session. Please wear clothes you don't mind getting mucky. We encourage attendees to bring some inspiration! If you have a specific design in mind, bring some pictures and we will do our best to help you achieve it.

Meredith Mason (She/Her)

Meredith is a ceramicist specialising in handbuilding with 3 years of teaching experience. She enjoys exploring clay techniques such as coiling, pinch pots and slab building. Bringing these techniques to a variety of workshops, Meredith aims to share her love of the clay world by guiding you through the process of handmade forms.

Naomi Stokes (She/Her)

Naomi is an expert potter with three years teaching experience. Naomi mostly works on the potter's wheel, but has recently reignited her love for hand building. Her aim is to help people realise their ideas in clay. Naomi will be on hand during the whole experience to give advice, support and plenty of encouragement.
