Luxmuralis: In The Beginning

We first went last year. We looked out for the event again this year. We’d go again next year.

Amazing experience

We loved it. Great attention to detail. Didn't feel rushed. Brilliant images. This will be a regular Christmas event for us annually. Thank you Bristol Cathedral and the creators of this. See you next year.

It looked like a lot of thought had gone into the design and placing of the light show and the sound which didn't overlap significantly from one vantage point to the other.

I preferred the louder session. It was not that loud and much more atmosphere

Stunning visuals paired with great music. Star strucked at the final segment of the show. Didn't think there would be a storyline but that made it much more thoughtful. Love that we were able to spend as much time as we want and even reenter. Definitely got my moneys worth.

I really enjoyed the light show and music, it was nice to be able to buy a drink and sit and enjoy the final piece for as long as I wanted.

Wonderful location and very enjoyable light display however it would have been useful to have had some sort of theme or something to give an idea of what we were looking at. So maybe something to read atvthe start of each section ?

Enjoyed it but wasnt sure whether to wait for each section to change. A sign showing the time on each section would have been good.

Great show and really enjoyed it.

Some of the scenes were faint to the eye but looked much better through a camera.

Could be a little bit longer in time but great effects and good value

Maybe some instructions at the beginning to say that each "area" had the light show on a loop so that you stay there for the whole duration, which we didn't to start with.

I’ve been for the last two years and felt this one was disappointing in comparison

We had a great time. I may book again to come later int evening when it’s louder. But a perfect visit with my ten year old

Impressive, but nowhere near as good as last year's. And it was difficult to understand how a 'reimagining of the Nativity story' came to include Father Christmas, reindeer and barley sugar canes – which didn't really work too well with the backdrop of a medaeval cathedral. Though at least there weren't any penguins!

Such a wonderful experience, beautiful setting, amazing projections and sound. Really friendly staff.

Loved the windy trail around the cathedral and the lights were very impressive. Only thing to say would be it was a bit too short for the price but otherwise it was great!

Awesome event and Yuup customer service was brilliant!

My son and I were looking forward to this after being blown away by last year's light show by Luxmuralis at the Cathedral. Sadly, this year's show didn't quite live up to our expectations. It did however bring us into the centre where we could explore other things afterwards so all was not lost!

Was done beautifully. And the staff was helpful seeing the crowd through. Magical.

The visuals were lovely, though I would have preferred not to be led around the Cathedral by the way it was set up. Would prefer to be able to wander in wonder :)
Also my group all agreed that the music could be more subtle in it's intention to create awe and wonder. It was rather driven and simplistic. There's so much incredible classical music to choose from, I'd say ease back a bit. Other than that it was beautiful :)

Loved the experience and the venue was adapted well for my husband to use his mobility scooter. Although I was aware of the suggested time allocated to the experience I didn't spend enough time at the beginning to see the whole sequence of images in each part of the cathedral and would probably have spent more time going through if it had been explained somewhere.

Didn’t know what to expect but was really happy that I booked

We took our 7.5 month old baby who loved it! It was great that there was the option of lower volume at certain times. We would certainly come back next year as I think kids of all ages would appreciate this. Finally, is someone able to tell me where the doughnuts were sourced from please as they were the best we have ever tasted! 😋

Very pleasant & relaxing experience. Only 4+ stars rather than 5 as it seems to me a missed opportunity not to customise the light show to the space, it just projects moving images onto the arcitecture without even referencing where there are windows and where walls. But it's good enough that having visited last year I came back again this year in the full knowledge of what to expect. I can recommend the mulled wine.

Fantasatic to see the lovely arches and pillars of the aisles illuminated with an ever-changing kaleidoscope of colour. The first part was very much aimed at young children with Santa, reindeer and candy canes amongst the motives whereas later "stops" , particularly the last used patterns of the stained glass and biblical scenes amongst the more abstract patterns. It was accompanied by appropriate but not intrusive music and although there were plenty of people viewing it wasn't too crowded.

Realy different

We really enjoyed the experience but felt it was quite expensive. If you gave visitors a mince pie or a mulled wine it would have felt like much better value

Music was plenty loud enough before 6pm, not sure why it needed to be turned up. We enjoyed it, but probably thought it should have been say £7 or £8 so a little pricey.

I saw this during the quiet hour and really appreciated the music played at a lower volume, especially as there were babies and young children in attendance.
Comparing this event with 3 other Lux Muralis events I have seen I was disappointed that the event was shorter.
I thought that the event worked well in spite of the organ work involving scaffolding and health and safety issues were appropriately addressed.

Lovely to see the cathedral lit up telling the story, in some places watching through the phone made it better as the images where so bright and large the phone just sharpened it all and made the experience nicer for me also I felt it needed more seats going round for older people to sit and watch or when there is a queue waiting for the next stage as a a few people I know who would like to visit couldn’t manage without seats.

It was an excellent experience.

So magical in an exquisite setting. I could have stayed all night- totally mesmerised

We visited the Luxmuralis lightshow at Bristol Cathedral last year and really enjoyed it, so visited again this year and weren't disappointed. Very clever and colourful. Nice to see the Cathedral being used for these types of events - hope the week goes well.

Great experience and we'll be back next year.

Brilliant

The cathedral is a superb backdrop of angles, shadows and shapes that lends itself as a beautiful canvas to be enhanced by the projections and lighting. The imagery and colour scales were really appealing visually, matched with the soundtrack to enhance the experience. I would happily rec omens this experience to anyone.

This was an absolute beautiful night so well put together would 100% go again! And definitely recommend to others.

Absolutely loved the experience. I went with 5 other friends and relatives including my husband, who was using a mobility scooter. The use of ranps to link different areas of the cathedral was perfect for him. Although I was aware of the suggested time for the visit I didn't work out the time it took to run the sequence of images in each area to begin with and might have stayed longer if I'd known. But overall it was an amazing experience.

This was my 2nd experience of Luxmuralis at Bristol Cathedral two years running, personally I thought last year's event was better, but this year's Christmas event was very good and I took a
friend who thought it was excellent.
I will return in the future as it's a magical event within the Cathedral.

OMG, was this uplifting! "Awesome" is an over-used word these days, but this installation was truly awesome. The combination of the projections, the soundtrack and the beautiful setting of Bristol Cathedral were spectacular. Well done to all involved!

The light show was incredible! The location of the Cathedral was very atmospheric which made the experience even better. As we walked around, a lady kindly pulled a rope back and offered us a seat for 10 mins which was so kind and needed! Made for a different but great evening activity!

Luxmuralis at Bristol Cathedral yesterday evening was mesmerising. Its powerful ever-changing imagery, was captivating, and with a great soundtrack and a creative and immersive experience it
left everybody enthralled.

No video or photo can captivate the total experience so it is well worth a visit and with numbers limited every hour there was plenty of space to enjoy and appreciate it

It was awesome, well organised and the best location which gave it the vibe. Would definitely recommend.

We rebooked for a quieter performance - we had booked a carer ticket to support our disabled, visually impaired child. We were able to find a quiet space where he danced and interacted with the changing lights - it was amazing for him and our other children were also able to enjoy the various installations. As a family, there is little 'mainstream' that we can enjoy together. Thank you so much for letting us know about the quieter showing, the louder would've been too much for him.

Showed off the cathedral architecture to its best, the music was uplifting and went with the display. Would go again.

Just a very different way of seeing the Cathedral and its stunning architecture. The number of families with small children and babies was wonderful with every age group enjoying the spectacle in its own way. Our weekend visitors were particularly impressed by the accessibility as we are all in our late eighties and need walking sticks!! Bravo to all concerned.

Experiencing the Luxmuralis Light Show in Bristol Cathedral was amazing… a brilliant location. Seeing the colours and patterns displayed across the beautiful architecture was amazing. We enjoyed it so much.

I saw this show as I enjoyed last year’s show. It is unique. I especially appreciated attending during the quiet hour. Loud music is oppressive and can be disturbing, detracting from the enjoyment. This hour is better for people with special needs

Really beautiful. I wore ear plugs as suggested because it was quite loud but that didn't diminish my enjoyment. Smooth moving through the Cathedral. Staff at every place ready to guide & assist. We arrived earlier than our booking but were shown in as the display is on a loop, so you can link as long as you wish. Great experience.

It was something really different and very enjoyable

The cathedral was magnificent setting, and the light show was on a loop so you could wander through at your own pace. We thoroughly enjoyed the imagery (many of which were like a giant kaleidescope) but the music was rather loud. It would have been helpful if there had been more staff to direct people in the final section as many were standing at the back and probably unaware they could be sitting comfortably on the floor or chairs. However all in all a beautiful and immersive experience.

Cool light display projected throughout the impressive interior of Bristol Cathedral. Enjoyed it, and fun to do something different. Hadn’t been in the cathedral before, and it’s a gorgeous way to explore the interior and appreciate its architecture.

Second year we have been, even better.

Thought it was absolutely mesmerising. Was really impressed by the display and how it progressed as you moved around the cathedral. I was perhaps slightly confused by narrative that was being told. I wasn’t quite sure where Jesus fitted in, (particularly a blond Jesus…) nor the Chinese displays, not that those displays weren’t still very lovely to watch. The volcanoes, the rain and water, the universe, and wildlife, I was totally encapsulated, and timely considering that our planet is dying.

We really enjoyed the show.usoc was very powerful and images were amazing. It suited the venue very well.

It was absolutely amazing. Would definitely recommend people of all ages.

Very enjoyable but there were a few bottle necks where stewards might have been more assertive in keeping areas of flow a little easier especially for people like me with limited mobility.
