Emily is a Lettering Artist and Designer with a passion for all things letters! From calligraphy to bespoke hand lettered logos and fonts to large scale typographic murals, she lives and breathes lettering.
After studying graphic design at university in 2010, she discovered hand lettering as a hobby in 2011. Whilst working for design agencies for a number of years, she built up her freelance lettering work alongside her full time job. In 2017 Emily created her first large scale typographic mural at Upfest (Bristol street art festival), and hasn't looked back since; she started to get opportunities to paint murals for her own clients. In 2021, after starting up on her own as a freelancer, Emily delved deeper into the world of lettering, creating bespoke letters for logotypes, and designing and publishing her own fonts.
Calligraphy is the basis of all of Emily's lettering projects. Being able to create beautiful letters is the starting point for any lettering artist - and knowing which parts go where is essential. Emily used Calligraphy as a spring board - once she learnt the basics she was able to apply it to many other projects. She still loves to practice calligraphy, and enjoys teaching others, no matter their skill level.
I've been drawing letters since I could hold a pencil, and practicing my calligraphy from not long after. It's the perfect calming pass-time, in a world filled with a few too many screens, being able to create something beautiful on paper is a lovely therapeutic experience. I'm a seasoned workshop host and I'll do my best to make sure it's a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone.
