What you'll do

Cable knitting. So cosy, so squishy, so satisfying. Even better news, knitting with this stitching pattern is far easier than it looks. Cable knitting is one of those big-impact skills that is well worth having up your (handknitted) sleeve. Just book into this full day workshop to find out more...

This workshop will cover:

  • What cables are and how they behave in knitted fabric
  • How to decode charts, abbreviations, and instructions
  • Working a cable the traditional way (with a cable needle) and the sneaky cheat’s way (without a cable needle)
  • How to fix a cable that crosses the wrong way without ripping back

You’ll be working on a little cable panel that will give you a chance to try out cables of different sizes and complexity. If you fancy, you can keep knitting this panel and turn it into a scarf or cowl - you’ll get instructions on the day of how to do just this.

With only six people in the group, there’ll be plenty of time to try out all the techniques on your own cable panel. You’ll have loads of help to make sure your cables are doing just what they’re meant to do.

This workshop is perfect for advanced beginners and intermediate knitters who want to start knitting lots of lovely cabled patterns. It’s also going to have some sneaky tips for more experienced knitters who want to know things like how to work without a cable needle – because those things run away.

The cost of a ticket includes cable needles, handouts, patterns, tea, coffee, and way too many biscuits...Guests will get a discount in the No Frills Knitting Shop if they want to keep on cable knitting after the workshops ends (which you will!).

After this workshop, you’ll be ready to take on all sorts of cabled wonders. Since the workshop is taking place in a knitting shop, you’ll have a chat about the next steps and possible patterns towards the end of the experience, and you can even grab your supplies before you head home. You'll be quite the whiz by then!
