Beyond the Mat - Discover the True Essence of Yoga

Beyond the Mat - Discover the True Essence of Yoga

What if yoga is so much more than the postures we practise on a mat?

In today's busy world, yoga is often associated with stretching, flexibility and physical fitness. Yet the traditional yoga of India offers us something much richer – a collection of practices and teachings that can support how we move, breathe, rest, think and live. In this two-hour workshop, we'll step beyond the physical practice and explore some of the many dimensions of traditional Indian yoga.

Together, we'll experience a gentle and nourishing practice incorporating asana, pranayama, mudra, mantra, meditation and deep relaxation, discovering how these different practices can complement one another and offer us different ways to connect with ourselves.

This isn't about getting into the “perfect” posture or having a particular level of flexibility. It's an opportunity to slow down, explore, learn something new and experience yoga as a whole practice rather than simply a form of exercise. You may discover practices that are completely new to you, or perhaps revisit familiar ones from a different perspective.

There will also be time to pause and reflect, followed by chai, cake and conversation – because sharing and connection are part of the joy of coming together. Whether you're completely new to yoga or have been practising for many years, you're warmly invited.

Come as you are and discover what lies beyond the mat. What we'll explore:

  • Asana – mindful movement and postures
  • Pranayama – working with the breath
  • Mudra – gestures and energetic practices
  • Mantra – the use of sound
  • Meditation – cultivating stillness and awareness
  • Deep relaxation – allowing the body and mind to rest
