What you'll do

Settle in for an evening of smooth sax, soothing soul and all that jazz...

Your host presents an evening of James Morton's Pork Chop and The Spotlights by Lady Nade at Ashton Court Mansion. Gear yourself up for an incredible evening of entertainment and admire the beautifully decorated mansion while you're at it too. With illuminated lights and festive twinkles in the air, walking through Ashton Court will set you up for a truly magical experience.

Opening act The Spotlights by Lady Nade is an eclectic Americana folk singer and songwriter. Lady Nade will be accompanied by guitar virtuoso Holly Carter. Together, the two blend jazz and blues into something simply spellbinding - with words and melodies that nourish the mind, body and soul.

James Morton’s Porkchop is a sax lead Hammond organ quartet formed in 2009. Drawing inspiration from jazz, soul, gospel, New Orleans, funk and the 'Blue Note' recordings of the early 1960’s - James Morton’s Porkchop is a heady mix of all of these with lyrical sax, the soulful Hammond organ, flaring guitar strings and driving drums.

James has earned a reputation as one of the most exciting saxophonists of his generation after working with some of the most prolific artists in the world. These include Fred Wesley and The New JB’s, Pee Wee Ellis, Tony Allen, Kasabian, NPG Hornz (Prince’s horn section), Raphael Saadiq, Ce Lo Green, The Herbaliser and Roni Size - to name just a few. All members of his band are world-class internationally touring musicians- so you're in for a treat.

Following the success of the band's album 'Don't You Worry 'Bout That' which was released to critical acclaim, this is a chance to experience these songs' magic for yourself in an equally special setting too.

About Artspace Lifespace

Artspace Lifespace (ASLS) is a registered charity that recycles under-used and problem properties into thriving creative hubs. They have been serving the Bristol arts community since 2006, before becoming a registered charity in 2016.

Working in partnership with artists, building owners, property developers, local communities and organisations they transform unusual buildings into vibrant multi-use art venues. ASLS see the creative potential in disused sites which others view as a liability - converting them into creative workshops, studio spaces, galleries, cafes, performance and training facilities. They host exhibitions across their sites and offer the option to book their spaces for hire. Sustainability, creativity and inclusivity are at the core of everything they do.
