Explore the Mendips with a compass, a map and the help of your host Iain, an experienced adventurer.
If you’ve ever wanted to try navigation and map reading in open terrain, this experience is the ideal introduction. Iain will share the skills and techniques you’ll need to help build your confidence and navigate your journey away from marked tourist paths. You’ll go away with the knowledge of how to navigate in a variety of hilly and mountainous areas of the UK.
This experience is very much tailored to its guests, so whether you have some knowledge or are a complete beginner, Iain will help you find your way and improve your skills as you explore the beautiful Mendips.

Your whole experience will be outside in a small group, and you're welcome to bring a mask if you'd like to wear one.
A map and compass will be provided, but bring along a packed lunch and make sure you have waterproofs and comfortable shoes. Your meeting spot will be at Burrington Comb, where you'll be able to park and then walk out on to the Mendips.
Iain has always had an adventurous spirit. He’s been everywhere from trekking in remote jungles to climbing mountains in Nepal, whilst also taking professional travel photos. He’s always wanted to share his passion for the outdoors, and setting up the Adventurous Activity Company in 2004 has meant he’s been able to share his knowledge with thousands of people over the years. Iain has many qualifications in navigation including the mountaineering instructor award and international mountain leader award. Through the Adventurous Activity Company, Iain particularly enjoys being flexible and tailoring each experience to his guests, working based on their personal experience level and interests.
Iain will be your host for this experience. Previously a teacher, he has been an outdoor adventurer and instructor since 2004. Iain’s appetite for the outdoors has seen him travel the world doing everything from climbing and surfing to trekking in the Alps, the Andes and the Himalayas. Iain has always had a passion for any type of adventure and enjoys sharing this with people who would like to learn more about outdoor activities and get off the beaten track.
