Introduction to Indian Block Printing

Want to learn how to print designs on fabric and create gorgeous, handmade accessories for yourself and your home? The traditional art of Indian Block Printing is enjoying a huge surge in popularity at the moment, its beautiful designs adorning everything from interiors to clothing. It is also a wonderfully relaxing and meditative craft, whose simplicity allows even those who don't think they're creative to achieve beautiful results!

After a demonstration from Lou your host, you'll get to play with a large collection of lovely hand-carved wooden printing blocks. Experiment with colour and designs on a variety of practise materials and learn all the techniques and tips you need to begin (or build on) your Indian block print journey.

Once you’re feeling confident of your skills and happy with your designs, you'll print them first on a selection of stationery items such as cards, postcards, gift tags, and then onto a large fabric item of your choice. Additional printable materials will be available to purchase on the day if desired.

What to expect:

  • There will be a wide choice of hand carved Indian wooden printing blocks and all the equipment you need for printing
  • Specialist fabric paints and a choice of blank printing materials to use
  • Hot drinks and a selection of scrumptious treats from our lovely neighbours at Magnolia Mews Bakehouse to enjoy
  • Leave with a set of stationery items printed with your designs - cards, postcards and gift tags
  • Take home a large fabric item printed by you – a cushion cover, tea towel or tote bag
  • All the skills you need to have many more block printing adventures!
