Ever wanted to try aerial hoop? In this unique fitness class, you'll throw poses and shapes, balancing or hanging from a large suspended hoop. Aerial hoop is great for improving muscle strength, balance and flexibility.

This workshop is for anyone in the queer community who has never tried hoop but would love to give it a go. You don't need any prior aerial experience to take part in this class. You'll learn a variety of fun shapes suitable for beginners in a safe learning environment.

Over the course of two hours, warm up together, learn some beautiful tricks and move sequences. At the end, you'll have the opportunity to film and photograph what you've learnt. You'll round the evening off with a relaxing cool down.

Minimum fitness level required.

COVID-19 guidelines

  • Masks are no longer mandatory but if you would like to wear one in the space or during the class you are more than welcome to. Whatever makes you feel the most comfortable
  • If you contract COVID-19 before coming to the workshop, please do not attend for your own safety and the safety of the other guests

On the day

  • The Albany is on Shaftesbury Road, Montpelier, BS6 5LT. It's a little building tucked away at the end of the road. There is street parking all around the building after 5pm
  • Please arrive at the Albany for 6:20pm, as this means your host can start promptly at 6:30pm
  • Please wear comfortable, tight-fitting clothing for the class. A vest top and leggings/close fitting joggers are perfect
  • Bring a water bottle and some snacks if you fancy

About Alexa Gibbens

Alexa is a queer cis woman living in St Pauls, Bristol and has been practicing circus for 8 years, graduating from Circomedia in 2018 and specialising in aerial hoop.
She is committed to pursuing inclusivity and kindness within her teaching, aiming to provide a safe, fun learning environment that is queer celebrating, fat positive and open to those who have no previous experience circus/dance/athletic background.
