Introduction to Sewing Workshop

Here's one beginner-friendly workshop that will fast-track your journey to making your very own handmade wardrobe. Build confidence working with a domestic sewing machine and soak up all the wonderful knowledge you'll need from your inspiring host.

This workshop will cover:

  • How to thread a sewing machine
  • How to make a button hole
  • How to sew different seam finishes (french seam, lock and fell seam, binding etc.)
  • How to make a scrunchie or drawstring bag

If you have never used a domestic sewing machine or maybe it's been a while, this workshop is a great opportunity to get you familiar and comfortable behind a sewing machine. Workshops are small, up to four people, so you will be able to learn in a relaxed and friendly environment. Your final creation will be a scrunchie or a drawstring bag.

What will be provided:

  • Sewing machine (if you prefer you can bring your own machine)
  • Fabric for samples
  • Threads
  • How to instructions via email
  • How to thread your sewing machine video via email

What you need to provide:

  • Just yourself and some drinking water, sewing is thirsty work!

Carla Diogo

​Carla has been a pattern cutter in the fashion industry for over 10 years while living in London and has worked for both high street and high end designers from women's wear to children's wear.

Carla graduated from the London College of Fashion having completed a degree in Fashion Design Technology and prior to that studied 2 years of Handcraft and Production Tailoring after completing a BTEC in Fashion and Clothing also at the London College Of Fashion.

Since moving to Bristol Carla has set up her own creative studio where she takes on commission work and teaches pattern cutting and sewing workshops and also creates her own Pdf digital home sewing patterns.

Sustainability is a big part of Set Square Patterns ethos, we believe that everyone should know some sewing skills to be able to mend repair and alter their own garments confidently so we buy less and reduce waste.
