Sudanese spotlight supper club

What you'll do

In Houria’s first Supper Club following their post-pandemic relaunch, the spotlight is on Sudanese cuisine and its rich food culture.

Your host chefs are Salha and Maha, a dynamic duo who hail from the same town in Sudan and miraculously found each other again in Bristol! They'll be serving up a plant-based feast of opulent flavours that will take you on a wonderful sensory journey.

During the experience at Breaking Bread on The Downs, you’ll go on a culinary journey with your Sudanese hosts, discussing the stories and significance behind the dishes they have lovingly prepared for you.

You’ll enjoy an authentic three-course meal that concludes with a delicious dessert made with Tony's Chocolonely chocolate, and a discussion focused on anti-slavery. Tony’s Chocolonely’s mission is to make 100% slave-free the norm in the chocolate industry so they are the ideal sweet treat to bring your experience to a close.

This experience is a fantastic way to join with friends, celebrate Sudanese cuisine and connect with the incredible work that Houria is doing in Bristol.

About Houria CIC

Houria CIC breeds freedom through food. Founded in January 2020, Houria CIC is a Pan-Afrikan catering company created by three BME people who shared a passion for food and refugee rights. They understood the link between modern slavery, migration and racism and made it their mission to create a joyful solution and a meaningful and sustainable enterprise in the heart of the community.

Houria CIC serve eclectic and authentic plant-based food across Bristol through feast events, food delivery and cookery classes. Their food is passionately prepared by women refugees, asylum seekers and survivors of modern slavery who are given paid training, a sisterhood and the opportunity to spread their joy of food in the local community.

Houria CIC’s supper clubs are rich with flavour and friendly discussion where you can expect to make some new friends and learn about their cuisine and causes.

Your host

Salha and Maha

Salha and Maha are Houria’s original trainee refugee chefs and love to feed Bristol with their native Sudanese cuisine, delivered with flair and pride. Growing up in the same town in Sudan, they inherited their natural talents in the kitchen, learning the techniques and the stories that go with the dishes throughout their childhoods.
