Uncover Bristol’s Past: A Photography Walk

Explore Bristol’s hidden history through your lens on a relaxed, social photography walk led by a local expert.

This experience is part of City Uncovered: Bristol, taking place from 18th–31st May – a limited-time series of unique, under-the-radar experiences designed to help you see the city differently.

What to expect:

You’ll begin at Bristol Folk House, a creative space tucked just off Park Street, where you’ll meet your host Sophie Sherwood and enjoy a relaxed cuppa with fellow photography enthusiasts. This informal start sets the tone for a friendly, social experience.

From there, you’ll head out into the city centre on a guided photo walk, exploring streets and corners rich with history. As you go, Sophie will help you spot interesting compositions and moments—encouraging you to slow down, observe, and capture the character of Bristol’s past through your own perspective.

The walk lasts around two hours, with plenty of time to pause, chat, and experiment with your photography. Whether you’re shooting on film or digital, you’ll be supported to get the most out of your camera and the environment around you.

Along the way, you’ll also have the chance to chat with Sophie about analogue photography, including how to use the Folk House darkroom for black and white film, and where to get colour film developed locally.
