Half Term Family Drawing & Stitching Workshop

Your half term holiday will be one to remember when you make your mark on the world this October. Spend a whole day drawing and stitching! You will explore colours, textures and expressive art through drawing with multiple medium, including stitch! You will use your creative powers to discover the joy of making textures, patterns, colours and images by hand and free machine sewing in this relaxed, fun workshop with Textile Artist Hannah.

Drawing is mark making, expression in your own way. Free machine stitching and hand embroidery are forms of drawing. You will translate and develop your hand drawings in traditional medium and stitch, to make new wonderful, unique effects.

Working in Hannah's studio, you'll use professional quality drawing materials, sewing machines and genuine vintage yarns. Watercolours, graphite, pastels, crayons, inks, natural yarns, different papers, vanishing membrane fabric and much more!

Perfect for complete beginners as well as anyone looking to reconnect with drawing and stitching. Hannah will guide you through the possibilities from start to finish. You'll learn how to make expressive, imaginative and observed marks, using a breadth of colours, textures and techniques, from realism to playful, abstract effects.

What you will take away:

The workshop explores the theme 'Autumnal light and dark', giving you plenty of inspiration while leaving room to follow your own creative direction. You might create real /dream like scenes, which hold a special association with the seasonal shift.

Bring your ideas to life using memories, imagination, photographs, postcards and artists' sketchbooks, taking inspiration from historic art & contemporary Textile Artists. If you enjoy finding flow in your creativity, you’ll love the excitement and momentum of this all day workshop.

You'll create your own textile artworks on paper. Whether you're discovering drawing with stitch for the first time or returning to techniques you've enjoyed before, Hannah will offer guidance, encouragement and plenty of creative inspiration.

Who is it for?

No previous drawing or stitching experience is needed. The workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those with some previous experience, with plenty of support throughout. Older children, teenagers, and grown-ups. Edge of Light Studio is a characterful space housed within a shipping container at Willway yard.
