âGoing for an Englishâ supper club is in collaboration with Monica Sawhney Haldar founder of The Spice Club and Shikshak.
This unique dining experience stems from Monicaâs personal histories, in particular the stereotypes she encountered as a child and the unrecognisable anglicizing of Indian cuisine in the UK.
We laughed about the sketch 'Going for an English' in the comedy show âGoodness Gracious Meâ where the comedians parody a typical Friday night out - referencing lairy behaviour and trying to surpass each other by ordering the âblandest thing on the menuâ (rather than the 'spiciest'). It is bloody hilarious - and if you havenât seen it watch it online!
This incredible experience creates a narrative of a Friday night out, through a playful and irreverent menu, all whilst showcasing Monica's extraordinary cooking of home-style Indian food, made from the heart to fill bellies and souls.

Nestled in the heart of Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter, GULP is a hidden gem offering an intimate space for dining experiences and workshops.
Led by sensory artist and all-around foodie, Kaye Winwood, Gulp was founded to provide a creative space for unique food-related events including supper clubs and cookery workshops!
Sensory artist and all-around foodie, Kaye Winwood, founded GULP as the first UK space dedicated to exploring food art histories, and showcasing innovation within food and sensory design through a programme of sensory dining experiences and activities.
Kaye's work fuses sensory design with visual arts and gastronomy to create new and meaningful eating experiences to enthral diners. In 2016 she applied the term âExpanded Diningâ to reflect a âbeyond the plateâ approach which reconsiders the dining experience as a sensorial playground using food as an art material.
