Ethnobotany 101: A Walking Tour of St Werburgh’s

Plants and people have a long and fascinating history together. From medicine and food to commerce and culture, plants have shaped our lives in many ways. But how much do you know about the plants that grow in your own neighbourhood?

Join The Apothecary Box for a fun and informative ethnobotanical walking tour of St Werburgh’s, one of the most vibrant and diverse suburbs of Bristol. Ethnobotany is the study of the connection between plants and people, and this tour will show you how to see your surroundings in a new light.

You will learn about the amazing uses and stories of plants from the biggest tree to the smallest weed, and how they've influenced the history and identity of St Werburgh’s. You'll also get to taste some traditional herbal remedies in the form of tea or tincture, and discover their benefits and effects.

The tour ends near a cosy local pub, where you can continue the conversation and share more stories about the plant kingdom with your guide and fellow explorers.

This is a unique and memorable experience that will enrich your knowledge and appreciation of plants and people. Whether you're a curious local or a visiting traveller, you'll find something to surprise and delight you on this tour.

There are four different routes to choose from: St Werburgh’s, Kingsdown & Cotham, Totterdown, and Clifton. Each one offers a different perspective and a different flavour of Bristol’s ethnobotany. Don't be surprised if you end up wanting to join all four!
