So you want to be a lyricist? Quit your daydreaming (but maybe keep your day job) and join us for Shut Up & Cut Up!
Hosted by local musicians Kali and Josh, from Bristol Noise Workshops, we’ll teach you creative methods to generate ideas, help you craft narratives and characters, and write collaboratively in a fun, friendly setting. We can help you get started on your lyric writing journey, or challenge your current approach.
This workshop is an introduction to new techniques that play with language and the writing process. Together, we’ll share ideas, explore the techniques your favourite lyricists have used, and explore approaches you’ve never thought of.
Afterwards, there’ll be time to hangout in our fantastic host venue, Kongs of King Street. There’s arcade games, table tennis, and drinks purchasable from the bar. Feel free to stick around and talk with fellow musicians and writers, or play a few games.
Please note
The workshop starts at 6:30pm. Please arrive 10 minutes before
No experience needed. Suitable for beginners and beyond, lyricists, poets and storytellers (and don’t worry if singing isn’t your thing)
All workshop materials provided
Free tap water available from the bar (other refreshments can be purchased)
To book us for private events, team-buildings, or birthday parties at a time that suits you, please email us at bristolnoiseworkshops@gmail.com.

A brilliant workshop led by the lovely Kali and Josh, lots of creative tasks to help with not just songwriting but generally to get the creativity flowing! Good size of group too, meant that everybody could share if they wanted but no obligation to, and a nice mix of abilities/experience. Will go again if there's another workshop, so please do! Thanks guys.
Fun taster into song writing and useful activities to get ideas for lyrics. Really lovely hosts. Thank you!
Timing:
The workshop starts at 6:30pm. Please arrive at Kongs 10 minutes before. You’ll find us straight through the door as you enter from King Street.
Transport:
Although there is no parking at Kongs, there is nearby pay and display street parking available at Queen Square, and multi-storey carparks near Cabot Circus.
Kongs is approximately 5 minutes' walk from the Harbourside bus stops, and approximately 20 minutes' walk from Temple Meads train station.
At Bristol Noise Workshops, we believe the environment is the silent co-writer of every great song. We run immersive songwriting workshops in hand-picked, inspiring venues, sharing proven techniques and our own creative twists.
Josh wears shoes. He’s worn them whilst recording, writing and performing music. He’s even performed at Wembley Arena (the smaller one) whilst wearing them. He will be wearing them during the workshops. However, at home, it’s strictly a ‘no shoes indoors’ policy.
Kali quit her day job. Now she’s co-running these workshops to pay the rent. She wore shoes throughout her undergrad music studies, and wore a slightly fancier pair when she graduated from her Master’s in Popular Music Practice (Composition). She performed at Wembley Arena (the smaller one) and recorded vocals for National Geographic’s ‘Queens’ whilst wearing shoes. Kali observes the ‘no shoes indoors’ policy at home. Hopefully, she’ll wear shoes during the workshops.
