Shut Up & Cut Up Dada Workshop

So you want to be a writer? Quit your daydreaming (but maybe keep your day job) and join us for our Shut Up & Cut Up Dada Workshop.

Dada is more than just collage. This anti-establishment rejection of traditional art and society spawned an approach to writing that’s reverberated through the music world. Whether you’re writing lyrics, poetry or fiction, it will liberate your creative process with randomness and ambiguity.

In this workshop, we’ll guide you through the cut-up techniques used by just about anyone from William S. Burroughs to David Bowie, Kurt Cobain, and Thom Yorke. Armed with half a stationery shop, we’ll share with you our own dada-inspired methods, and collaborate with absurdly amusing results.

Unshackle yourself from structure. Find meaning in the madness. Release your inner artist and get sticky fingers from glue sticks. Then, maybe, quit your day job.

• No experience needed
• Lyricists, poets and storytellers are all welcome
• All workshop materials provided
• Free tap water available from the bar (other refreshments can be purchased)
• As Kong's is a bar, there may be some light background noise
• But don’t worry, there’ll be no singing in this workshop... unless a song we like comes on the radio
