Step inside a hidden railway arch winery and discover the craft behind Birmingham’s growing English wine scene.
This experience is part of City Uncovered: Birmingham, taking place from 18th-31st May 2026 – a limited-time series of unique, under-the-radar experiences designed to help you see the city differently.
What to expect:
You’ll arrive at Midland Press, an atmospheric winery tucked inside a central Birmingham railway arch—an unexpected setting that immediately sets this experience apart.
Your host will begin by sharing the story behind the winery: how a serious winemaking operation has been built in a city better known for industry than vineyards. From there, you’ll explore the space itself, moving through into the barrel room, where the winemaking process is brought to life.
You’ll learn how grapes are sourced from carefully selected English vineyards, before being transformed into wines served in some of the region’s top restaurants. Along the way, you’ll gain insight into the techniques, philosophy, and challenges behind producing high-quality English wine.
The experience concludes with a guided tasting of the latest vintage, giving you the chance to sample the results firsthand and understand what makes these wines stand out.
Expect an intimate, relaxed atmosphere with plenty of opportunity to ask questions and get a true behind-the-scenes look at a working urban winery.
