When facing The Old Print Works building, the driveway heading to the parking is on the right hand side. but it would be best to park in Edward Road, opposite.
Unfortunately the workshop is upstairs with no lift in the building.
Metallix is a pewter embossing studio based at The Old Print Works in Balsall Heath. Founder Mel reworks old classic metalwork craft with a modern twist. She creates striking hand embossed pewter items from keepsake boxes to journals. Keen to learn this craft too? All of Mel's workshops are beginner-friendly and the perfect introduction to getting creative with metal.
Mel has always been a creative person, whether that's dabbling in some craft, making 3D sculptural cakes or sewing children's fancy dress costumes, she was never able to stick to one medium for long - until she found metal embossing.
On a trip back to Cape Town, Mel joined a friend on a pewter embossing workshop. She was instantly captivated by this versatile metal that can be used to decorate various objects or worked into mixed media works. There was no looking back.
Founding Metallix fulfilled Mel's lifelong dream of having a studio and teaching the thing she loves doing the most. Mel mainly works with pewter and copper, as well as some aluminium and metal tape - but you'll find all kinds of wonderful materials featured in her large scale mixed media canvases.
