Welding & Creative Scrap Metalwork

Join Felix and Annie at WTF Workshops for a day of creativity with metalwork, finishing up with your own piece of hand made metal craft.

Whether you’ve worked with metal before or have no experience at all, everyone is welcome. One of Felix and Annie's missions when setting up WTF Workshops was to make metalwork accessible to anyone who wants to give it a try, making it perfect for beginners or anyone wanting to improve their metalwork skills. You’ll be introduced to all the workshop tools and how to use them safely, and from there you can start thinking up ideas for your piece and jump straight into the scrap pile.

Take your inspiration from the workshop mood boards, the unique pieces of scrap metal you find or come along with an idea in mind of what you'd like to make. Then you’ll set your own pace making a metal creation using hand tools, soldering and more. Each guest will have one to one time with Felix and Annie while creating their work, particularly when using the larger workshop tools.

Everyone is free to make whatever they like and anything from robot sculptures, lamps, fire pits, garden sculptures and wine racks have been produced in this experience. Time to get creative!

WTF Workshops

WTF is a female founded workshop in Bristol, created by Felix and Annie. Their goal is to empower anyone who wants to try their hand at metalwork, and because of that they have a particularly welcoming environment to learn in. Felix and Annie have bundles of creative metalwork skills, and between them have worked on West End shows, Doctor Who, Top Gear and the spectacular Arcadia. The two got their creative heads together in 2017, and that is when the seeds of WTF Workshops started to sprout. They saw how the world of welding and metalwork was very much male-dominated and wanted to redress the balance. WTF Workshops was soon born, beginning in a small basement studio where they offered an encouraging, safe space for anyone to learn in. Fast forward to now and they have moved into their shiny new home, a bright and airy workshop in Albert Road, St Phillips. From here Felix and Annie run popular creative metalwork experiences for anyone to come along and enjoy. Their enthusiasm to help people realise their ideas in scrap metal is boundless, and on an experience with them you should expect lots of encouragement and most of all, fun.

Felix

Felix has been creating with metal since she was a child. Her interest in the art was first sparked as she helped her dad, who was a metalworker himself, creating beautifully intricate pieces and jewellery too.

Felix went on to focus on making large scale and impactful sculptures from costume armatures to huge sets, focusing particularly on special effects. To date Felix has created metalwork and special effects for big shows like Doctor Who, Top Gear, Arcadia and more.

She most enjoys helping people realise their own imaginative ideas in metal.

Annie Chapter

Annie first started to learn about metalwork in her mixed media fine art degree. She went on to complete a post graduate diploma in scenic construction, specialising in welding and large-scale prop fabrication and using her skills to create imaginative show props and sets. Annie has been doing special effects prop making and creating metalwork ever since.

She has worked at the Royal Opera House, the National Theatre and has worked on the sets in the West End including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as well as working on many live stage props for numerous shows including the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony and Take That's world tour.

Annie also design and builds stage decor and site art installations for music festivals including Glastonbury. Boomtown and Shambala. Annie enjoys creating bold sculptures so if you’re thinking big, she’s always on hand with help and advice.
