This workshop will take you through the process of choosing a commercial sewing pattern.
We’ll cover the best ways to select an appropriate project and what to consider when interpreting the pattern-maker’s design. Unlock the mystery of pattern measurements and how to match these to your body shape.
Gain wisdom and know-how about fabric, fibres, and other materials such as stabilisers. Discover different ways to complement your chosen design with buttons and other features.
There will be some sewing in the workshop to demonstrate how different materials and equipment behave. That way you’ll leave with a practical understanding of a variety of fabrics and how to deploy them to your advantage.
After completion, you’ll have sufficient knowledge and confidence to select a pattern and join our other courses showing you how to transfer patterns to your fabric, cut out and sew, following the designer’s instructions.
If you’re familiar with these aspects of commercial sewing patterns, you may want to skip this session and move onto one or both of our other sewing patterns workshops.

Creativity is good for you. It has a positive impact on both physical and mental health. It's this aspect of what we do that makes us a great choice because we think carefully about this when we design our course content.
We teach as a team and keep our group sizes limited to ensure that we are able to give everyone as much of our input as possible and allow people to go at their own pace. This varies, depending on the setting and we're known for being able to set the pitch appropriate to the group we're teaching. We have the right DBS checks in place with policies and risk assessments that allow us to teach children and vulnerable adults.
You'll have access to a range of equipment as part of the course fee, and we always give clear instructions regarding additional materials that participants will need to bring. We own a number of Singer Heavy Duty sewing machines but we welcome people using their own machines if they would prefer.
Join us for one of our bookable sessions, or contact us for something at a location of your choice and/or specifically tailored to your needs!
