Clay Club - Self Directed play time

2 hrs 30 mins
(58)

We will ask for a payment of £5 at the end of the session if you would like us to fire your work for you. More info on this at bottom**

Trylla ceramics studio opens its doors to all budding potters. Whether you are an experienced potter or a beginner who wants to experiment with clay, all are welcome.

Clay Club acts as an open access to the studio and so this is not a taught lesson - however you have access to one of our technicians, who will be on hand to answer questions, should you need it.

The studio benefits from all the tools and equipment you will need to make great pots as well as all of the glaze colours you can imagine. We can also use our kiln to fire your work for you in at the end of your session.

If you opt for clay work you can use as much white, gritty peach or terracotta Earthenware Clay as you like - it’s your choice. You will then spend the session making whatever you like, focusing on the form of your project.

In the following session you attend you might opt for colour work, to decorate your projects. You will have access to a HUGE selection of underglaze paints, jazzy speciality glazes and transparent topcoat to do this.

In this experience you will:

  • Be given clay to work with and / or access to glazes and slips

  • Open access to the Trylla studio including all our tools and books

  • Be unguided. This is not a taught workshop, so bring your imagination!

Whatever you create during your experience can either be squished and recycled or be fired by us and ready to pick up 2 weeks later.

More info on how it all works on our website here : https://tryllashop.co.uk/pages/clay-club.

We will ask for an additional £5 to cover the cost of firing your work. We wanted to explain why:

  • Energy costs have increased

  • We are finding that studio creates too much waste! People don't always return to collect their fired work. It's bad for the environment.

  • It's also bad for the studio. It takes up a lot of space to store pottery for 3 months, to then find it will never been collected.

We hope that by implementing this new firing fee we will encourage people to be more conscious of only firing items they intend to keep. It will also mean we can recycle your unfired clay to be used again!

Age restrictions: 16+

Clay Club (Make what you want - firing not included) £20
Pottery Painting (Acts as partial payment towards the item you decide to paint - includes your firing fee) £20

You'll be hosted by

Trylla

Trylla was created as a playful environment for people to experiment with ceramics and other crafts. It's run by Alice, Trylla's resident pottery nerd. Her goal with Trylla is to make ceramics more accessible to all budding potters in Bristol. It’s an emporium of weirdness, with walls covered in oddities in every colour you could imagine. Trylla has regular pottery experiences from wheel making to hand building, with a rainbow of glaze colours available. It also has a shop selling ceramics supplies and a range of handmade products from local makers.
