What you'll do

Trylla ceramics studio opens its doors to all budding potters. Whether you are an experienced potter or a beginner who wants to experiment with clay, all are welcome.

Clay Club acts as an open access to the studio and so this is not a taught lesson - however you have access to one of our technicians, who will be on hand to answer questions, should you need it.

The ceramics studio is on the ground floor and basement beneath Trylla, on North Street. The studio benefits from all the tools and equipment you will need to make great pots as well as all of the glaze colours you can imagine. You will also have the option of signing up for a go on our pottery wheel - these slots last 15 minutes. Will use our kiln to fire your work for you in between sessions.

You will choose to do either 'clay work' or 'colour work' for your whole session:

If you opt for clay work you can use as much ice white, gritty peach or terracotta Earthenware Clay as you like - it’s your choice. You will then spend the session making whatever you like, focusing on the form of your project.

In the following session you attend you might opt for colour work, to decorate your projects. You will have access to a HUGE selection of underglaze paints, jazzy speciality glazes and transparent topcoat to do this.

In this experience you will:

  • Be given clay to work with OR access to glazes
  • Open access to the Trylla studio including all tools / an optional 15 minute slot on the pottery wheel
  • Be unguided. This is not a taught workshop, so bring your imagination!

Whatever you create during your experience will be fired by us and ready to pick up 2 weeks later. For large items we may ask for an additional donation of a few pounds to go towards firing costs.

About Trylla

Trylla was created as a playful environment for people to experiment with ceramics and other crafts. It's run by Alice, Trylla's resident pottery nerd. Her goal with Trylla is to make ceramics more accessible to all budding potters in Bristol. It’s an emporium of weirdness, with walls covered in oddities in every colour you could imagine. Trylla has regular pottery experiences from wheel making to hand building, with a rainbow of glaze colours available. It also has a shop selling ceramics supplies and a range of handmade products from local makers.
