Join this seasonal silversmithing workshop and discover the exciting process of casting with organic forms. You'll learn how to pour molten silver directly into pine needles, sourced from local trees, to create wonderfully unique pieces of handmade jewellery.
This fun and warm workshop uses natural materials and the impressive heat of big blowtorches – all under the expert guidance of your tutors. They will show you exactly how to cast your shapes safely and effectively. Once cast, your tutors will help you transform your silver forms into beautiful earrings or pendants, ready for you to wear home. It's a fantastic experience whether you come alone, with friends, or as a family.
During the class, you will cover:
Melting down silver
Pouring molten silver
Soldering
Finishing up and polishing
You’ll leave this session with a new appreciation for natural forms and the craft of silversmithing. Best of all, you'll take home your very own handmade silver jewellery, completely unique to you and the materials you used.
Please note: Silver is not included in the class price. It is charged by weight at £2.50 per gram.

Maxine is an experienced jeweller, with over 10 years experience within design, making and teaching. Graduating with a BA in Silversmithing in 2009 at Plymouth University of Arts, Maxine then went on to work as Technician for the Jewellery & Metals Studios where she studied, supporting students in their learning for their degrees. In the last 4 years Maxine worked alongside other talented jewellers at Diana Porter where she deepened her knowledge about jewellery design. Her experience in making alongside her patient and supportive teaching style will help you feel creative and confident when beginning to learn how to make jewellery.
