Our beginner classes introduce you to the core movements, rhythms, and traditions of capoeira. Each session begins with a warm-up, then focuses on a handful of movements that you’ll practice in sequences to explore attack, defence, and flow.
Classes are always taught to live music, helping you relax into the rhythm and energy of capoeira. Alongside movement, you’ll learn the songs, instruments, and history that make capoeira such a rich cultural practice.
These are friendly, welcoming classes with experienced players on hand to guide and support you. Whether you’re here to move, make music, or connect with the community, you’ll find yourself quickly absorbed in the dynamic world of capoeira.

Welcome to the beautiful art form Capoeira.
Capoeira combines martial arts, song and music, performance and dance into a unique cultural art form. You'll learn kicks and dodges, trips and takedowns and you'll tune your strength and reflexes, but capoeira is played as a game, and the classes are based around that core idea. You'll learn the moves and interactions of this physical game and the songs and music that define it. Along the way you'll learn self-defence and grow your confidence and discover a wide world of capoeiristas, practitioners of the art, who will support and compete and play with you.
The classes are aimed at beginners, so we'll be teaching foundation moves, but there will be more experienced players training as well, and helping with the classes. No experience is necessary.
Bob is the Contra-Mestre of the group. He is the main teacher and the direct link to Mestre Laercio who founded the group 30 years ago. Bob has nearly 25 years of experience in capoeira and has been teaching for about 20 years.
Ollie is the main teacher for the beginners classes. Ollie has been teaching for more than 10 years and is soon to be made Contra-Mestre. His approach to the classes is very structured, introducing capoeira movement and music piece by piece.
