A flexible hands-on course for beginners looking to build skills in designing and converting their own campervan. Whether you're planning a future build or already own a van, this is your chance to learn essential techniques before starting your own project.
Course Options:
Join for 1, 2, or all 3 days – choose the format that works best for you.
Start with Day 1 (required), then complete day 2 or 3 in any order - do them together in the same week, (Sat–Mon) or spread them out across the year.
You have 12 months to complete all the days.
Day 1: Planning & 12V Electrics
- Overview of the full conversion process
- Safety, layout, and key considerations
- Hands-on with 12V systems: design, wiring, fuses, USB ports, lighting, pumps, and testing
Day 2: Metalwork, Diesel Heaters & Plumbing
- Cutting van panels for windows, vents, and fans
- Fixing wood to metal
- Installing 12V diesel heaters
- Planning and fitting sinks, pipes, pumps, and 240V electrics (with safety overview)
Day 3: Woodworking & Build Skills
- Cutting and fixing wood panels
- Framing, flooring, and storage unit construction
- Joinery techniques for a solid van build
On this course you’ll learn:
- Van layout design and planning
- Safety: ventilation, crash zones, CO and fire safety
- Choosing tools, materials, and insulation
- 12V & 240V electrical systems
- Water systems and plumbing
- Cutting metal and woodworking techniques
This is an ondoor workshop in Evercreech, near Glastonbury, Somerset (BA4). The space includes workstations and real-world examples (van may be on-site for reference).
No experience needed- just enthusiasm! Wear old clothes, sturdy boots, and work gloves.

On the day
- All courses are run indoors in the dry with heating.
- There is also free tea and coffee on tap, throughout the day and a fridge is provided to keep any food or packed lunches cool.
- Under 18’s can take part if accompanied by a parent or guardian also on the course (one adult with each child) but only with prior agreement.

Scott is Black Paw’s founder. After years of upcycling, he still loves to share his craft and has taught many people to upcycle safely in a number of different workshop experiences. Scott's aim is always that his guests not only leave with a finished creation, but also the knowledge to upcycle long after their experience is over.
Sue
Sue has 30 years of experience as a teacher as well as a passion for upcycling.
She particularly loves working with fabrics, interior design and can share lots of ideas for anyone wanting to make garden accessories.
