Ready to read more without sacrificing your free time? Or just running out of time to finish the book? Join our monthly book club designed for busy people like you! We pick short, classic books that can be read in a single day.
We'll meet for just 45 minutes on the fourth Thursday of every month, from 12:45 to 1:30PM.
It's the perfect way to squeeze in some quality reading and discussion during your lunch break.
Here are the next few books we have lined up:
Thursday 23rd April - Passing (Nella Larsen)
Themes: Identity, Race, Deception | Vibe: Tense, Elegant, Claustrophobic
Two childhood friends reunite in 1920s New York; one is "passing" as white, sparking a dangerous obsession with the lives they've chosen to leave behind.
Thursday 28th May - The Third Policeman (Flann O’Brien)
Themes: Hell, Absurdism, Science | Vibe: Bizarre, Hilarious, Nightmarish
A murder protagonist wanders into a surreal world where the laws of physics don't apply and atomic theory turns men into bicycles.
Thursday 25th June - Cold Toast (Kathy Aldridge-Morris)
Themes: Domesticity, Loss, Observation | Vibe: Sharp, Fragmented, Relatable
A collection of "flash" moments that capture the quiet explosions of everyday life.
Thursday 30th July - The Employees (Olga Ravn)
Themes: Humanity, Labor, Memory | Vibe: Eerie, Clinical, Poetic
Set on a spaceship in the 22nd century, this consists of HR-style witness statements from humans and humanoids who have become strangely obsessed with "objects" found on a distant planet.
Thursday 27th August - Wide Sargasso Sea (Jean Rhys)
Themes: Madness, Colonialism, Marriage | Vibe: Lush, Feverish, Tragic
This "fan-fiction" prequel to Jane Eyre gives a voice to the infamous "madwoman in the attic," tracing her tragic descent.
Thursday 24th September - Água Viva (Clarice Lispector)
Themes: Time, Being, Art | Vibe: Abstract, Intense, Fluid
A pure, unedited meditation on the "instant-now"; it abandons plot entirely to explore the raw feeling of existing, written as a letter from an artist to an unnamed lover.
Here's what you'll get from joining us:
• Access to great literature, thoughtfully selected to fit into your busy schedule. • A lively, guided discussion and a chance to connect with fellow book lovers. • A dedicated, enjoyable break to recharge and connect with others during your working day. • A coffee/ tea is included in the price.
