Botanical Cyanotype & Embroidery Workshop

Join cyanotype artist Fiona Clabon and embroiderer Lizzie Barnes for this bumper creative workshop. Learn how to create bold botanical cyanotypes onto fabric in the first part of the workshop. After a short lunch break, we’ll then be stitching into our fabric artwork, learning up to 5 stitches as we go.

Looking to get creative this Autumn? Fancy adding some new skills to your creative toolbox? This 4-hour workshop promises to be full of creative joy from start to finish!

Discover the magic of cyanotypes; a beautiful photographic process that uses sunlight to create stunning Prussian blue images. Enjoy access to Fiona’s dried flower and leaf collection to create your very own botanical artworks using this magical process.

You’ll hear a little of the history of cyanotypes, follow a step-by-step demonstration of the process, and then have plenty of time to create your own cyanotypes onto fabric.

It's a great chance to try something new, spend time with friends, and take away beautiful pieces for your home or to share with loved ones. You will be supported by Fiona throughout, who’s calm and friendly approach will give you confidence to experiment with this technique.

Once our cyanotypes are completed, we’ll move onto the second section of the workshop, the embroidery!

Discover the mindful magic of needlework and learn a calming and rewarding new skill. Lizzie will guide you as you learn how to master 5 versatile hand embroidery stitches. Understanding these stitches will give your future creative projects a beautiful boost, adding lovely texture and detail.

Lizzie will be bringing along a colourful selection of threads for us to use, and we’ll have examples of hand of ways to embroider into your cyanotype to get those creative ideas flowing.

• You’ll come away from this workshop with a finished (or mostly finished!) hand embroidered cyanotype in a 6inch hoop. You’ll also be able to take away your other fabric cyanotype experiments to continue stitching into at home.

• Suitable for beginners as well as those with more experience. You’ll be gently guided throughout the session, with Fiona & Lizzie on hand for advice or to answer any questions.

• We will be both seated and standing during the workshop.

• All materials and tools will be provided, along with an apron to protect your clothes. All you need to do is bring yourself ready for a little dose of creativity!
