Birmingham Sights & History Walking Tour

Learn the amazing history of Birmingham and its main sights of Birmingham in this fun walking tour. With loads of photo opportunities and a walk along the canal, you’ll get an understanding of the story of this great city from its humble medieval origins through its explosion as the Workshop of the World to the modern diverse city of today!

Your host is a born and bred Brummie who can teach you to talk like a local and offer plenty of tips for further exploration. Learn about why he loves this city, Birmingham's unique story and some of its secrets!

The tour includes:

  • The Bullring and the Medieval origins of the city
  • St Philip’s Cathedral and religion and growth in the city
  • Jewellery Quarter and Birmingham's manufacturing past
  • Canal walk and Birmingham's development
  • Old Turn Junction and the city's international connections
  • Centenary Square and Birmingham's Enlightenment era
  • Chamberlain Square and Birmingham's politics and Victorian legacy
  • Victoria Square and Birmingham's modernisation

If you’re new to Birmingham this tour covers the main areas of the city centre and puts them into their historical context. If you know the city well you’ll almost certainly learn something new!

Children under 10 go free. The tour involves steps and slopes and is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs, there are some uneven surfaces but it’s suitable for anyone of an average fitness level.

On the day

  • Meeting point: We meet at the statue of Nelson which is between the two sections of the Bullring shopping centre and overlooks St Martin’s church
  • We finish in Victoria Square in the centre of the city just a 5 minute walk from the starting point and your guide will happily escort you back there if you wish.
