EmailPerfect for complete beginners, this short sewing course will introduce you to the essentials of machine sewing, giving you the confidence to start your own projects.
Over three relaxed and enjoyable evenings, you’ll not only master the set-up and use of a sewing machine, but also learn a variety of practical skills that can be applied to both clothing and soft furnishings.
What You’ll Learn: - How to cut out a fabric pattern accurately, following the grain line - The best seam finishes for a professional look - How to construct angled seams using notches to perfectly align fabric pieces - Under-stitching techniques for a neat facing - How to make a rouleau loop for a button fastening
By the end of the course, you’ll have created your own beautiful cushion to take home and proudly display, plus your own copy of the pattern so you can make more whenever you like.

On the day
On the day of the class please meet me on the main entrance of the Island on Nelson Street BS1 2LE. There is no need to bring anything to the class, everything is provided. The Island is situated on the edge of Broadmead, very close to the bus station and other bus routes. The closest car park is the Galleries Broadmead or Cabot Circus The studio at The Island is based on the first floor and unfortunately there is no lift in the building.
